Hard to tell from the picture. If the colors are in the rock and change when looked at from different angles, then maybe black opal.

Hard to tell from your picture because it is blurry. However the presence of iridescence and green makes me think it is likely copper based and it could be Bornite or Chalcopyrite that has been weathered to Bornite and Malachite in some sort of matrix.

It has some of the colors of bornite but from the pictures it looks more gemmy. Bornite is metallic. Are there crystals in the rock? Nice rock though.

View attachment 1078657 hopefully this pic is better

Where did you get this specimen from? General location may help identify it. In the latest picture it looks very interesting and it may help to see it closer up. Especially on the corner that was chipped that is in the bottom right of your last picture.

No crystals. I've checked many websites and asked a few Q. Some called it a peacock rock. Which leads back to basically what you stated. And thank you BTW. PS it was in an odd area.

Whatever you have, it's a great specimen.

Because you said it came from slate I'd be tempted to think about coal.

The pictures however also leads me to think about bornite and/or chalcopyrite. Perhaps even Pyrite. A mixture? It does happen.
