I got this from an artifact action its from the Mich. Canada border area what do you guys think it may be Worth .And what is it a pendant or gorget

Looks like a wonderful Gorget to me.....Value....thats harder..It realy depends on where you sell it IMHO.Like if you were to sell it here in texas(not too many of them here that are that nice)It would go higher.But yours is super nice,so it should go for top doller.I would feel ok payin no more then 2 grand for it.But and this is a big but...I am still pretty new,so I would not take it to the bank......But it is truly AWESOME..in my book

shopdog, do you know the history on that piece? Like who found it, where it's from, and when it was found? Also, do you know the material?

I'm not saying it's bad piece, but pieces like that always scare me a little because they just seem to have to much on them. The stars on one side, squares on the other, and a groove all the way around the edge is just overkill to me. It seems like all that's missing is tally marks. How much did you pay for it? I'd say a good fair price if it's real is around $200 or $300. If I was you I'd have it checked out if you haven't already.

Dang ...now see that why I should keep my mouth shut,I just don't know about artifacts from there.
For me since I have never found a Gorget,or a etched item I would value it high.But in the end it will only be worth what somebody will pay for it.

I have to agree with Steve and Joshua, imo the carved lines look modern, but that's only my opinion. A piece like that should come with papers, history, and province. I'd personally send it to an expert for peace of mind.

who would be a good guy to send it to. and yes there was paperwork with it no coa just who found it and where and when I will try to dig it out. i payed 180.00 for this peice and 5 others all found by the same guy

I think the stone looks ok its the incised lines that look more current than the regular patina? Might be ok ya never know. If you have ever looked at the intricate shell gorgets and death mask with tears engravings from the mississippian era your designs would be considered very simple. Good luck and please let us know what you find out.

It's certrainly a reproduction and I run into made up finder information all the time. I see pieces walk into shows that were supposedly found by so-and-so but are obviously bad. I just looked at a collection the other day that a guy said her personally found all of the points. Bad thing is I just saw some of the same points sell at an auction near him a few weeks earlier.

If you're serious about getting it sent off to an authenticator you could probably do Davis or Berner which are ok for slate. Davis is a more recognizable name (not saying he's better) and probably a little cheaper, but you get what you pay for in relics like anything else.
