Whats a Dowser?

~ClonedSIM~
I wasn't trying to get a specific answer, Art, I was just making a point. There can't be many people on this Earth that wake up in the morning, walk out their front door and then do something that no one can explain or that no one, including the individual performing this feat, understands. Why aren't dowsers more concerned about this? I know that I would be
People have been doing that for centuries so why worry about it? .

And I wasn't asking you for the odds, it was a rhetorical question. Odds don't exist for that kind of thing, but my original question still stands, why aren't dowsers more concerned that no one, including themselves, have any clue what they're doing or why it works? I know what the standard answers are going to be, "It doesn't matter to me," "As long as I find gold, why should I care?" etc.
That is correct

Here's why.

With all of the assumptions flying around why dowsing is supposed to work,
But it does
has anyone stopped to consider that what you're doing might be unhealthy?
Lets see..I am getting my exercise and enjoying myself

I'm not saying that it definitely is, but Marie Curie didn't think she any problems until she started to develop radiation sickness.Alfred Nobel didn't have any qualms about inventing TNT until he saw it's destructive power. Oppenheimer wasn't thrilled with his final result when he and the Manhattan Project finished up with the atom bomb.
That was their job..Dowsing is a hobby

My point is that you may or may not be dealing with powers beyond your control, and wouldn't it make sense to figure out what is actually happening before one of you swings his rods the wrong way and blinks into an alternate universe?
When all else fails bring up “powers beyond your control”. Gee...the last report I read when that happens our sun will be dead along with all of life on earth...

I have been looking for the document that contains the quote attributed to Einstein but have had no success. You would need to see the context in which the quote was used to get its full meaning.

But I don't think it exist. Can someone point me in the right direction?

I did find this on geotech1 which is what I currently believe. Maybe someone can prove me wrong.

Q: Is it true that Albert Einstein stated that dowsing is an established scientific fact, and that he was an avid dowser?

A: There is no way to know everything that Einstein said or did, but one thing about him is sadly true: since his death, people have attributed all sorts of quotes to him in an effort to legitimize their particular fringe beliefs. There is absolutely no evidence that Einstein ever made any comments about dowsing, or that he ever had any interest in dowsing. As far as I can tell, this is one of those "a friend-of-a-friend told me" stories, and is probably not true. More importantly, the validity of dowsing (or anything else) is not at all affected by what anyone - even Einstein - believes about it. Einstein was wrong on more than one occasion: "There is not the slightest indication that [nuclear energy] will ever be obtainable. It would mean that the atom would have to be shattered at will." - Albert Einstein, 1932. Dowsing stands or falls based on the scientific evidence, not someone's authority.

What’s a Dowser
For this board I think a Dowser is a person who uses Dowsing methods to enjoy their hobby of Treasure Hunting...A treasure would be anything that is a treasure to them. The tools they use is what works for them...Art

Ok guys this is my very first post. So cut me a little slack Please.......
In the 1960's thru the 80's out in west Texas very few locals would drill a water well without having my Dad witch the location first. He had a great track record.
I can witch any water, sewer or electric line with very good success.
I don't have any idea How it works, just that it does.....I have never tried gold witching, photo witching or even water well witching, but, I do know it works for water.
I believe it could work for gold?????
Glad to have found this forum.
Now back to metal detecting...........:icon_thumright:

Thanks Docpr..thousands of people use Dowsing to do what they need it to do...As far as treasure hunting goes a person uses the tools that he wants to use...I have never dowsed for water but I am sure that if it was necessary for me to learn I could do it. Heck...a water dowser turned me onto the spot in the American River where I enjoyed the best Gold Dredging I ever had...Art

The only one "agreeing" is the professional sceptic Randi :) The rest of us have been vindicated by scientific papers and studies that prove over and over in the laboritory that dowsing works just fine! Ingo Swan first proved repeatable results in the 1970s. The CIA and the military used dowsers and Remote viewers for 25 years! They were used by the military in WW1, WW2, Korea, Iraq to find wells to water the troops. You might want to examine the "sceptics" and their motives before you take their word for anything.

You are very close Bigdogdad, although I would never pay your dog food bill :) All of us have a conscience mind and a subconscience mind. They however cannot directly communicate with each other. They are seperated with a barrier science calls the "Lemin" (as in subliminal). Fortunately, both minds are connected by the body. For instance, through will and practise, and rote memory you can teach your subconscious to use the muscles in the fingers to play the guitar. After years of "jumping" the lemin a musician is born! Dowsing is exactly the same. With practise and determination, you can teach your subconscience to answer you through small movements of the muscles moving a dowsing device. Both the guitar player and the dowser are doing the exact same thing, "jumping" the limin!

Now your conscience nor your subsconscience can answer anything outside. However the subconscience is able to access the universal intelligence or God mind which knows everything, after all he created it. Time, space have no meaning here on this level. So the dowser more or less gets the subconscience to go into the great unkown, find the answer, and then transfer it accross the limin to the conscience through a dowsing instrument. This exactly the same thing the guitarist does that enables him to play "Opus 57 in G minor"! Do you know how many tries it took and how many mistakes the guitarist made before he could play competently? Tens of thousands! Dowsing is no different, you got to want it!

Hope that helps,

Mitch

Hey Mitch…Your got right….The sub-conscious mind can be taught…We do it every day in many of our daily activities…When driving down the road and cars start to wreck in front of us your foot goes on the brakes without having to think about it…When you touch a hot object you move your hand without having to think about it…..Dowsing is the same way….You have practiced enough where it is automatic…
I think it is called Taught Ideomotor Response…..Art

Dowsing is of the mind. And that's not easily provable using a scientific lab. Its like studying the paranormal, how does one prove that he saw spirits, or that they had a psychic dream that came true? SRI International has studied this phenomena and came up with conclusive results years ago.

There is physical dowsing, where the electro magnetic spectrum is involved, like finding buried water pipes, cables, etc

And there is psychic dowsing, where the sub conscious mind kicks in, tapping the Akashic Record of universal connectivity.

I have dowsed since 1982, found gold, water, tunnels, spirits, and even liars that had stolen stuff from me. You can't let negativity affect you, like these skeptics that always want to "shoot the puppy" and make fools out of sincere dowsers.

It really distracts from what the positive message is with dowsing, when skeptics hijack the threads!

I have been a dowser since I was a kid and my dad showed me how to dowse for water. I also map dowse before I go prospecting so I have an idea where the hot spots are for the gold . I use a gold coin on a chain to map dowse when i get over a good spot the coin will rotate clockwise . I also ask specific questions and clockwise means yes counterclockwise means no. Most people might think I am crazy but it works for me. When we dredge in the creeks I dowse to see if we got all the gold and where the next hot spot is using a Treasure scope which is basically an electronic Dowsing rod.

Was the dowser Rick Hughes? He used to operate in that area, and would hang out at Pioneer Mining in Auburn.

I knew him fairly well. We would always argue about technique.

LOL How old are you? Man I feel old. The first response you got is spot on. My Father in law dug wells for a living and was considered a "Dowser" He would use a cherry wood branch that had two branches and would hold the two ends walking around waiting for the end tip of the branch to dip toward the ground. He ALWAYS found good water that way. (Dumb luck)? maybe but it seemed to work.
