What's going on at Arrowheadolgy?

Scotto, good to see you man, I hope all is well!

You too Joshua!! How's things where you are?

Yes, I do agree that there were some amazing threads there. Some of the early stuff when guys like Trask, Mojave, and a bunch of other Great Basin hunters were active were amazing threads. You and ArtifactJack kept up the quality there as well.

I was shocked when Mojave left and deleted all of his stuff. Not a cool thing for John to do. Always loved seeing what Trask and Dennis were finding out west. GBM as well, that guy was the charmstone king, lol.

I think PhotoBucket changing their hosting was also a killer for the forum. When the picture hosting capabilities died a lot of people used PhotoBucket, and that left so many threads a bit empty.

I had MANY MANY pics on Photobucket, not just arrowheads but hundreds of them for a different hobby. Can't believe they did what they did. That's why I will never trust my photos, videos or data to any other service or a "cloud."

I think he's still kicking but I don't know if he's here. He's the one that made the Clovis casts I mentioned earlier--from Brass!

I have some cast also great guy .

Tdog....Pointless is my best friend.....he's still around and still makes casts off and on for people but he's not on this site. He's a regular on several Facebook groups.

Events like this are exactly what made me decide to become a Charter Member here. Been a lurker for many years but but this board is too important to let it slip away due to lack of funds to keep it going so I coughed up a few bucks. Think about it...Nothing in this world is free and it takes money to keep sites like these on-line.

I thought you two knew each other.

Anyone ever hear from Bobby? What about Buckeye, Ghost Recon, Lilyput, LongTimeFree, Midlandman, OneOneNiner, Neralich, Wichita, and Wishanks? There's more that I can't think of right now, and others that I have seen on Facebook like Jack Crafty, John Scoggins, Cisco Jack, etc.

I think the Grim Reaper got to Steve. lol

The last time I saw GhostRecon was several years at the Ripley Ohio Artifact Show. Someone told me that he went off the grid, so to speak, and removed everything from the Internet. He hasn't been at the Ripley show for quite a few years. I hope he is doing okay. I always liked him and his dad. Good people.

'

I remember them all but haven't heard from any of them lately.

Ain't is nice when people use their real names???? I gave up trying to remember the real names of online nicknamed ones.:icon_scratch::dontknow:

Arrowheadology was a hell of a site for Arrowhead Collectors and Hunters. It is strange how it just up and disappeared without a solid explanation. I was a long time lurker that didn't post much. I miss the endless abundance of knowledge and sharing it offered.

Websites have the life expectancy of small animals and birds.

That may be true. You have to be able to buy the storage to host. We were bought out but they kept all our data, pictures and post for almost 20 years! I liked the way AO laid out the forum with places for point I.D. Was a good resource and knowledgeable people. You can never have too many resources when researching. I am sorry to see them go but we are happy to see them here sharing knowledge.

Also each member can create albums in their profile and store pictures there as a back up. But for safety I always back up to another drive.. just in case . lol

One of the things I love about this site is that aside from having plenty of moderators it is big enough and broad enough to have admins, hosting, tech, sponsors, etc. At the end of the day, every forum I have been on has eventually failed because one person eventually can't/won't pay for what it costs to keep one of these beasts running on the latest platform or they can't afford the personal time.

Imagine the storage space required for TreasureNet, storage, storage of hundreds of thousands of pictures and over 6 million posts.

Arrowheadology had the best members in the artifact society. I went off grid this summer at my cabin also, with a solar system for power. Must be some kind of survival instinct trending on the planet. The internet is knowledge and communication. But it will never replace man's instinct to survive. Keep searching for mankind, and not for what we have become......
