What's going on at Arrowheadolgy?

I appreciated arrowheadology for what it was, but the way it's been shuttered without explanation leaves me to ponder what was it's undoing? I was always amazed that arrowheadology was able to provide unlimited uploads of photos unrestricted to size. I just guessed that it was hosted at a University or some other large institution with unlimited bandwidth available. It is odd how the moderators are as clueless as the members as to what happened.

my last update is that the admin was no longer answering texts/questions. Honestly, and this might be airing dirty laundry, I’m done if if they bring it back. There are other forums, this one being a great example, that don’t seem to run like that.

I am sorry to see A-ology disappear for several reasons but mainly because of the great educational threads that appeared on that site and the typology page was one of the best to be found on the internet.

Word on another site was it got a bad malware infection and it ain't coming back.

Also many wonderful threads for beginners to the artifact hobby, whether you are a field-walker, a creek-walker, a digger, or a buyer.

There was also one heck of a knapping sub-forum there, with thousands of photos of member's work. Sad to lose all of it.

I was on it quit often , my computer finally went haywire and had to take it out to have a guy go through it . im like others i made alot of good friends and love the site . but now i dont know how to get ahold of the guys i talked to .

I would like to know some day what may have happened with Arrowheadology. Can't believe that it never came back online.

Evidently Shannon just didn't have time to mess with it anymore. After losing Big Ed, who was the tech guy, it seemed like the site was always getting viruses. I couldn't even access it from work because of them. It sucks though because of all the pictures and posts I put on there that are just gone now.

I wonder why Shannon hasn't let go of the AO domain name? We could get ahold of him and see if he wants to sell it and revive the AO Forums.

I was a looooong time member there (joined 2011) and had just become a member of the "Tribal Council" for less than a month when it went down the tubes. I also made a lot of friends there; many of which I'll never talk to again I'm sure. However, I'm glad I found many of them here. I was gifted several modern knapped pieces from some great knappers there--"fogman" Jim Hopper from Oregon, Tim Severn from California, "bluestone" Doyal Webster from Texas). I can't recall Tim's username right now--sorry Tim if you happen to read this. That was only a few of the knappers there. Also received some Clovis casts from "Questor" Mike Kruse. It was a good place w/good people.

I couldn't access it all without spending hours with virus removal tools for my PC afterwards.

They thought they got it that one time but it came right back. Must have been so much of an aggravation that Shannon just said "To heck with it."

I'd love to see all of those posts and pics available online, even if it was just an archive.

I think it was "Major Flaker."

Yes, "Major Flaker" is it. Thank you Scott and I'd love to see it all again too along with my Personal Message correspondence. I joined there in Feburary of 2011 and was an active member with +/- 7000 posts.

I miss that site I posted thousands of artifact photos from the California foothills and the Great basin .

I would too brother. Had I known it was going down and would be gone, I would have screen-shot PMs I had gotten from a few members that have passed on. Such as Michael Dolcini (HighSierra), George Looney, and a couple other members.

Scotto, good to see you man, I hope all is well!

Yes, I do agree that there were some amazing threads there. Some of the early stuff when guys like Trask, Mojave, and a bunch of other Great Basin hunters were active were amazing threads. You and ArtifactJack kept up the quality there as well.

I think PhotoBucket changing their hosting was also a killer for the forum. When the picture hosting capabilities died a lot of people used PhotoBucket, and that left so many threads a bit empty.

What happened to Pointless ? another missing person .
