What's it all for?

What do you think it's all for? What is the end purpose of our existence. Nothing? Something? Why did we push ourselves so hard to exist? Why did/do we keep exploring. Whether we are here because of intelligent design, brought to life by the breath of God, or emerged from the murky slime in the ocean, I would really like to have a definitive answer on this. I mean really, is it fair to keep us guessing all the time. All the ghost hunters could sleep at night, the UFO enthusiasts could have some new penpals, and or the christians could really know for sure that they are supposed to behave, it could be a lot better world if we were all enlightened as to what it is we should all be working for. It makes one jelous of say the egyptian pyramid builder who knew pretty much what he was there for, and what he was working for and what he would always be working for. So if anyone out there has figured out "The Truth" can ya let me know, because I'm sure we weren't meant to be spending time pecking words into boxes. Are we ? :dontknow:

Re: What's it all for?

Why do you think we exist? You have to have some sort of informal opinion to ask such a deep question....

Re: What's it all for?

I don't particularly have an opinion on that, just curious what some might have to say. If I were to give an opinion on the basic question of what it is all for I guess I would have to ask what the main thing a human needs other than the needs to survive(food/water/shelter). I know what that is, as did jesus.

Re: What's it all for?

Life is beautiful. Even though it might not be useful in ways we can think of with our human minds. The reason we exist is not for us to question why, just 'being' is enough for me. We are all here for different reasons, there is not a definitive answer to your question. Live and let live

Re: What's it all for?

Nope, sorry. No definitive answer. Each of us has to find an answer we can live with, and not harm others. For myself, there is no better example than Jesus, I mainly don't worry too much about the other Bible stuff. I'll let others worry about that. I'm over halfway there at 49 years old, and I have spent too many years worrying about things I can't change, and will never understand. So... I let go of it, and just try to enjoy the good things. I've got to tell you, I reaching a place where I don't care "why" anymore, and it frees me up to live :icon_thumleft:

Re: What's it all for?

Whether we're here by design, freak of nature, or divine intervention, we're here. The one good thing is that we are energy currently in a solid form. The good part is that energy can't be destroyed, only changed into another form. So I guess we have to wait until the end to get the answer, if there is one :tongue3:

Life is a gift, so I say, "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth".

Re: What's it all for?

Good answers Nature & Tee. Some people never figure it out & some people never even bother to ask. Certainly the answer is unique to the person asking. Keep asking that question Ohioan & you'll eventually get the answer. Good luck to you. :)

Re: What's it all for?

When you get to be my age, pecking on a little box is as good as just about anything else you can do, and I like it! I figure there has to be some kind of after life as cheap as life here on earth is. Just think about all the millions that die or are killed here on earth every day that you don't know about , never hear about and never even think about. You never feel their feeling or hear their thoughts or see their families, yet they are as importent as you are to someone. When you think about it, life is the cheapest commodity on earth. So, is your little portion of life really that important in the overall scheme of life really? Probably not. Even the most influential of men on earth will someday just be a rotting corpse in the ground or scattered somewhere. It don't really matter I suppose. No one except perhaps two men have ever come back from the dead to know , that being Lazerus and Jesus Christ, or so the story goes. And who is to say that is even truth? True believers of religion will I am sure. No one else has even claimed to have been dead and come back to tell. Houdini promised his wife that if it was possible he would come back to let her know, but he never showed up. Musta' missed the bus? So, maybe it don't matter and only at the moment of death will you find out. If any of you find out would you let me know? Monty

I am with Monty on this one. Pondering about life, existence, etc.. life will pass you by before you know it. Live it :icon_thumleft: The bottom line; we are nothing but thinking fertilizer.

I have to learn to be more eloquent like Monty :tongue3:

I gotcha... well I won't hesitate to say that I personally believe our purpose was fashioned into us as God formed Adam and breathed His breath of life into him. Our life, I believe, is meant to be lived in gratefulness to God our Father. Some will say that they don't think or believe that God did all of this... this universe, this earth, the land, the water, the light, the animals, and all of humankind... but there were people who didn't even believe Jesus Christ, even when He was standing before them in the physical. If they couldn't find it in their unbelieving hearts to comprehend Jesus in the physical, how could they ever believe in His Father whom they couldn't see?? And so others are in disbelief over that which they cannot see... but I find it fascinating that they're more than willing to put their faith and hope in other things which they cannot see, feel or touch... such as theories.

Anyway, all of that is my own formed opinion. I don't care what a pastor, my family, or my friends say or feel about the issue... it's something that's instilled in my heart, mind & soul... no one, on this side of heaven, will ever be able to take that away from me.
That's my opinion, so take it for what it's worth...

Re: What's it all for?

The reason for all of this is highly subjective.

"taking place within the mind and modified by individual bias; 'a subjective judgment' "

The two schools of subjective thought are first we just happened or we're creatures of intelligent design.

Both schools have their bad sides. With chance we have nothing after death. With creation we have the possibility of giving an account for our lives after death.

Those who opt for the chance school are taking the chance they could be wrong. If they're wrong they could be in big trouble. If they're right they have nothing to gain since they simply cease to exist. Those who opt for the creation or intelligent design school have nothing to lose if they're wrong; but possibly everything to gain if they're right.

What do I think? I don't see life as we know it just happening by accident. A garden left to itself never gets better.

I believe we were placed here by vastly superior intelligence. Since I believe that I also believe this superior intelligence would logically make Himself known.

We are all for better or for worse appointed unto certain destinies and nothing can change these destinies.

Re: What's it all for?

Living life without some kind of spirituality is not healthy. Just going through the mechanics of everyday living is not enough. Most psychological abnormalities can be attributed to living life 'incorrectly' and not paying attention to our link with everyone and everything. There is much more to life than meets the eye...keep searching. There's a book that might help sort things out called Care of the Soul: A Guide for Cultivating Depth and Sacredness in Everyday Life. The author is uniquely qualified to write this type of book.

I knew you would hold that view Bran and I respect that you live by your convictions. Monty :icon_thumright:

Thank you Monty. :) That's probably why you're such a great guy...
I try to also respect the beliefs of others as well... even if they differ from my own.
I only know what I believe, that is all.

Frankly, sometimes I wonder why would God put me here in the first place. I have absolutely no talents. I mean all that I ever really do is work, work, work. And occaisionaly I get some sleep in between all of the work. There has to be more of a reason to be here than to live a life such as this.

I do believe like Bran said, that we were fashioned to worship God. To live as He wants us to. I would go even further and say, that which you can't see is more real than that what you can see. In other words the spiritual world is more real, than this physical. In saying this, and the fact that I do believe in God, I am still trying to figure out His purpose for me in this life.

So could you tell me what my puny little existence in this place is for ?

Have you given over your life to God to do whatever He wants with it?
You'd be surprised what He does when you give everything over to Him....

Bran, I "think" that I have given Him everything. I mean I am continually staying in His will. Doing what He wants me to do. I have been asking Him for some 20 odd years what He wants me to do. I've been told that I would end up being a preacher, but I don't do the whole standing in front of people and speaking bit too good. I do witness to folks in my everyday life, but that ain't really preachin'. I've even had several folks prophecy to me that I was to heal people. God did heal my son through me when the doctors didn't have a clue as to what to do.

I often wonder if I could have somewhere along the way got out of His will, and missed my calling somehow. If I have, He hasn't showed me where it was.

I highlighted the most important thing you just said. Keep in mind, there are many preachers who don't even lead many people to the Lord. Sure, they speak and teach of Him... but in the end, when everything is said & done and we're able to call Heaven our home... there is only one thing that we're going to be able to take to Heaven with us when we die or are raptured... and that's other people (souls). So what your doing by witnessing, though you see it as something small and insignificant... it's actually a HUGE thing!! Witnessing is not an easy thing for many Christians to do. Just keep praying, and maybe try telling God that you give everything to Him in your life to use you as He sees fit. I know what you mean in not being sure what God wants you to do in life though. I'm in a lull myself right now. But unlike others who feel they "need" to be constantly doing something, I'm happy to just be waiting on God to open the next door in my life. :)

Re: What's it all for?

I think we are here to dump the goofs in Washington this November. :tongue3:

Re: What's it all for?

Dumping the goofs is a good reason. But they are like locusts, they always regenerate every few years. Everytime some false Antichrist comes along, his followers run to him like rabid dogs and make our country just a bit more lopsided than our forefathers intended. And even though we eventually kick the bums out, some remnants stay to taint our constitution. That's why all super powers from the beginning of time have eventually fallen. They are eaten away very gradually from within. It won't happen in the USA in my lifetime but it will happen and it may not be as far down the road as you might think. So we need to slow it down if we can and not just "drop and cover". Monty

Re: What's it all for?

Here is why I believe we are here by which ever way you think we originated! I think we live in stages. In our young first stage we are here to change whatever we can for the better. Some where in our midlife we realize some things can't be changed and in our latter years we have reconciled the difference.
