I have been a crh for 20 months and started a crh penny book. I go through $275-$300 per week. I was wondering if any of the other penny crh have kept tabs on how long it takes to try and fill both books. I am 20 pennies (mainly the low mintage) short. It took me over 1 year to find the 54p, while I have found 18 Indian Head, 5-1943, 5-1909 and about 100 foreign coins (not counting Canadian) with 3 being silver. Any one else keeps tabs like this.

I started trying to fill a the cent albums about 5 years ago. All I need to complete it are the 09-S-VDB; 14-D; 22 Plain; and 31-S. Unlikely I'll ever find those, but I continue to look for upgrades. I also have put together all but 2 of the small size Canadian cents.

Waseeker, I need the same 4 you mentioned plus 16 others. I am doing the same with the Canadians but live further from Canada than you so it will take me a lot longer for them. PJ

Thats alot of pennies to go through everyweek by hand! Do you save the copper as well?

I am going to start working on some albums soon. When I was home before Christmas I found my old cent and nickel albums that are mostly full and my dad had the silver rosie dime and merc dime books going he gave to me as well. The rosie book is almost full, the merc book not so much. On one of my long weekends I need to let the hunt rest for a few days and get my stuff organized.

I'd also like to get some higher quality albums, the old ones are just the classic blue whitmans and some of the coin slots are losing their compression so when you open it they just fall out lol !

Bigheed

i've had some luck with harder dates but man that book still has some holes for me too.

ive come up with roughly 2000 wheat cents and 5-6 indian heads...... not including the collection i had inherited from a friend;)

then again I started in september so i'm not complaining.

i'd love to get some of those lower mintage wheats soon. need something nice to come out of a box.

sidebar...

just rolled all the canadian i took out of circulation...

25 $ in pennies... hahah that is alot

I have 55 to go. I am still looking 41s for my wheatman book 2 folder. I search on average 4 boxes per week. PJ, you seems at a better location. I don't find S-mint much at all.

~25 or so penny boxes searched in 2011, 4 of the 598 wheats were 1954p

Living just a couple hundred miles south of Canada and near I-5 results in lots of Canadian coinage both in the bags and in the reject bins. I typically get enough to pay for a trip to Canada once a year ;D

Keep looking - you'll be able to add more.

Yes it is a lot of cents to go through but I'm retired and the winters can get kinda wet up here in WA which messes with my ground fishing time!. I haven't updated my finds for 2011 in a while but I'll end the year with about 3,500 wheat cents and I had 15 IHC (9 in one bag). Totals are way down this year because my primary pick up bank bought a new coin counter. It is one with a big bin instead of bags so I can't buy from them any longer.

No I don't save the copper - with the volume that I search, the floor would probably collapse from the weight ::)

jrf30, once again your lists show a great attention to detail. What kind of volume are you doing per week? I don't keep detailed stats like you but certain dates like 1919p, 1920p and 1939p are very common here. I would say that I get 4-5 1939p every week. I have been extremely lucky on IH. At Christmas, I had my 2 grandchildren opening a box of pennies and 1 of them says "grampa I found an Indian". A minute later the other says so did I. That was the first time I ever found 2 in one box.
