Sure its not just worn away cause other wise I'd bring to a coin shop to see what they think.

Had some time on my hands and couldn's find anything online or in my books about undated coins. Sorry.

Hi if you dont mind me asking were did you find that piece?
I have collected for several years and own a coin and pawn shop here in town and it could possibly be that someone recieved it in change looked at it thought it was "fake" or junk and tossed it out the window.

Since there were so many wheat pennies minted from 1909-"1958" being the last year these coins were commonly circulated ALOT so its very possible that the date is just worn off. But in the case that it not worn it could be an "error" coin, a die mistake, or an offset punch.

hope that helps

Its a worn coin but the IN GOD WE TRUST and LIBERTY can be read clearly. Someone may have removed the date but I see no evidence of that. It looks like a real penny.

I found it in my truck today while cleaning.. I dont remember seeing it anytime prior.

Bigcyp,

I think those are special pennies, you can
use them any year; that one will not expire
with the expiration date that is usually
placed on pennies. :P

have a good un.....

It looks like there are scratches in the date area when i magnified the picture so is it possible the date was sanded off?

It looks like some marks, I agree. The coin is also dirty. I will have to clean and take a closer look.

We can use process of elimination a little bit. Do you see the initials VDB between Lincoln and the rim? If so, then it's post 1918. They can be hard to see on an old coin, but it's a start anyway. Also, doesn't appear to be 1943. Are the initials VDB apparent on the reverse, bottom center above the rim? Then it's 1909. Otherwise, I don't know what other advice to offer, other than a magnifying glass.

1985

I will clean with a soft brush and look for VDB.

I search bags of cents every week looking for wheat cents. I've seen several of them with no or very weak dates yet the other features are very readable. Dies can get gunk in them causing weak strikes in some areas and a weak struck date would wear sooner. From what I've seen 1946 is afflicted with horribly weak dates. Also several of the coins ins the teens exhibit weak dates.

As mentioned above try to find the VDB beneath Lincolns shoulder. (it's on the beveled edge between the shoulder and rim). It could be very weak with only partial letters showing. If there is a VDB then it is after 1918 (also mentioned above).

Im not sure, :-\ but the scratches appear above-right of where the date should be.

This coin is too worn to see the VDB if it has one. After cleaning, it appears someone has scratched it with fingernail or something soft looking for the date. I see no remnants of the date or any severe scratching or grinding, but the coin is so old and worn its worthless in my opinion.
