WheelChair bound looking for idea's

Im very active and do everything in life all on my own. My wheelchair is light weight so it really doesnt get in my way. Was wondering if anyone had any idea's on what would be a easy way for me to MD?

Thank you for your time.

Forgot to say that several years ago I ran into a disabled detectorist who used a modified go-kart to detect from and done quite well as he was right down close to the ground. As I recall the go-kart was electric so could be used in parks and playgrounds.

;D Now, THAT... is a GREAT idea! LOW, to the ground; could be modified with a tools "carry-all". YEP! ;D

Thank you so much all of you. I dont think digging will be a problem for me. I have planted trees and many bushes in my yard. I can work a shovle very well. Im paralized from mid chest down. Am as active as building my large patio deck all on my own, i have a car not a van, build and design poker tables on the side also. I just think if i could find a way to rig the detector so i can roll my chair freely and fast would work great. And what type of detector. Im really interested in searching old home sites and areas.

Again thank you all very much im keeping notes.

Welcome to the hobby! Don't let anyone tell you that you can not do it.

I would consider getting a metal detector first. Then cut off the detector 4 inches beyond the hand grip. This would get rid of the padded arm rest that would be in your way. Then drill 2 holes thru the handle strait up and down in line with the units display. now you would have a 4 inch piece of metal to fab a mount on. You could try something to the effect of a flag pole holder or a fishing pole holder to mount it to the chair. You could use the bolt hole to line up and drill the holder to keep the detector level with the ground. Now you have hands free mount. This will let you move the chair side to side with you hands to scan the ground. Then you inch forward as you go. You could remove the detector from the chair easy this way. You might also take a set of those 12 inch metal flags withe the orange triangle (the ones that nicor uses )to mark your finds. Then you turn your chair to the side and dig where you marked.

This is just one idea. I am sure you will figure it out. Hope to see you out hunting.

Electric chair will definitely help you with your condition. However, it is really very expensive. It is the only thing I think would make life a bit easier.

Ok if you can navigate your chair with upper body I would try this. But a tesoro and adjust your foot pedal low to the ground on the opposite side you dig from. It may not matter.Mount the last section of the shaft into a half clip of say a tessorro . You can unsnap the shaft and put the unit in your lap .. One of those tough tool holders may work where you clip and hang tools in a garage
This way you have the strength of both arms to manipulate the chair and detector over the area you wish to hunt quickly and can sweep as well with your upper body . Once a single is detected un clip the detector and sweep with your upper body strength. Have a digger you can use between your legs a light weight modified post hole digger may work well. Carry a plastic paint roller pan to sift your dirt in . You can figure out how to carry everything with basic modifications.
Any question holler at me I am so so at engineering and design .
Take care
