What do you want to do or be when you grow up?

I was 50 before I realized what I wanted to do when I grew up...to be a teacher!
So, I decided to go back to college after 20 years...
I'm getting A's and B's.

How 'bout you?
Isn't it time for you to REALLY do what you've always wanted to do, to be what you wanted to be when you grow up?
Trust me. You CAN do it! There is only YOU holding you back!
What is it that you want to do or be?

Best Wishes,
Scott

When I was little I wanted to be a motorbike man :dontknow:

I am 79 and I still dont know. There are lots of things that I wish I had done though. Bob

I always wanted to be the Grand High, Exalted, Mystic Ruler of the Racoon Lodge, Bensonhurst chapter.

I never had the problem. When I was little I saw how nasty some adults were so I decided to never grow up and always be me. The fact is you can't change who you are only what you are. You would be very unhappy trying to be someone else all your life, that is unless you were an actor!

When I grow up just want to live day to day. Let it take me where it can. Whether it is detecting, panning for gold, hunting, fishing where ever it may be. I just want to live life to it fullest.

My dream was to be an actor. I can honestly say that I did it too. From my teens through my early 20's, I worked quite a bit. I managed to land an agent, a manager and even got into SAG (Screen Actors Guild) which is the union governing actors. I even dabbled in stand-up comedy.

When I was working, there was NOTHING like it. However, you don't work too often in that field. Or, when you do, you don't get paid. The highlight of my "career" was working with Leonardo Dicaprio. This was pre-Titanic, so, he was a star, but, not the mega star that he is today. I hung out with him for three days being what they call a "stand-in" and I thought he was going to be a douche. Honestly though, one of the most down-to-earth, genuine people you could ever meet. Funny as heck too.

In my mid-twenties, I got involved in sales. When you go from being a broke actor to making a six figure salary, it's tough to give up that kinda stability. So, I stuck with the sales. If I could do my life over again though, I would've stuck on the acting track. Being young and naive, I didn't realize how far I actually made it before I quit. I let the money dictate my future. But, guess what? I'll NEVER make that mistake again. It shows MUCH more character to struggle doing something you love versus doing something you hate just for the moola. Too bad I learned that at this stage of life :BangHead:

Like the old saying goes..."Do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life". How true :icon_sunny:

Now THAT'S cool!!! No criticisms at all. It was actually VERY good. I've seen some horrible singers and music before and you're NOT one of them.

You have the looks and the talent. So, what happened?

Did you get sidetracked by the "real world" like me??

Thanks for sharing. I actually saved the page to my favorites :headbang:

P.S. - I went through so much Aqua-net in the 80's that if I would've bought stock in the company I'd now be a VERY rich man :laughing7:

Appreciate the pep talk but for many of us, there is no 'you CAN do it', or 'there's only YOU holding you back'.
Some of us will never get the opportunity to go to school either through student loans, the government, Pell grants, or rich parents. I've tried all four and on numerous occasions.
We are where we are and that's where we'll stay.
I'm an old poor white American single male so that automatically negates me from just about anything that's designed to improve my lot in life.
I applaud your decision to go back to school, though. I have always wanted to be a teacher myself.

Hey Gopher,

I couldn't sit by and do nothing while you beat yourself up. First, you might be broke, but, you're not poor. There's a big difference. I know, cause I'm broke :laughing7: You've got your health, an enjoyable hobby and probably many friends and family. That's not poor IMO.

In terms of your current situation, almost ANYTHING can be changed if we so desire. It might be difficult, require a lot of work, sweat and sacrifice, but, it CAN be done. Money or no money.

And I'm not talking about any voodoo, or positive thinking crap here. Just the desire coupled with a battle plan and a course of action.

I grew up with a kid so poor and so dumb, we used to call him squatter Frank. He dropped out of H.S. in his freshman year. Today he is a multi-millionaire. How? Well, the way he tells it, after scrounging around from job to job and getting nowhere, experimenting with drugs and getting a divorce, he finally hit rock bottom. He had an idea though. He always liked to fix and tinker with things. To use his hands. Even when we were kids he used to go around fixing everyone's bikes. So, he decided to learn about electrical work. On and off for the next 2 years, he read every book in our local library about anything having to do with electrical work. He also practiced. A lot. He eventually became a union electrician making $60 or $70 an hour. Soon after, he opened his own electrical repair shop and the rest as they say is history. He now lives in a three million dollar house in Naples, Fl.

It CAN be done. You just have to decide if you want to do it

I wanted to be a doctor or a construction engineer. I turned out to be a cop. But I know a doctor and an engineer. Maybe they always wanted to be a cop? I think I'll trade. Monty

For me, I'm 52, and from here on out I'm going to, "be true to they self!"

I wanted to be a professional bass fisherman when I was a kid of about 14. Good ole dad thought that was a joke. Told me that fishing was for old men that are retired. I remind him of those words every now and then when I visit and turn the tv onto the fishing station. :icon_pirat: Seriously.

I still enjoy it as a hobby.

When I grow up, I won't to a little old pot belly man wondering around with a metal detector..............................OMG I'm there..............
