Where are the "old timers?"

Been working lots of hours as of late. Been on this forum for well over a year now. So many new folks--glad to have you, but I miss the traditional voices we once heard on this forum. The advise was solid and the cheers inspiring. As such, my posts will be fewer and far between. Happy hunting to all.

Good Luck,

Re: Where are the "old timers?"

I remember that article it was right after I joined the board myself.
It was a well done piece. I loved it.!!
I know the heat you took from people who did not like the secret
being out. But,the secret has been out for decades.
The 1st month I came in with over 700 keepers, and then got quiet.
Others in my town thought it was nice and joined in. :)
I still hunt but only boxes.
Way too busy with the buying silver and gold to even do a full run in town.
lol oh well :)
HH GL all and remember to be nice to the tellers :)

Re: Where are the "old timers?"

I guess I'd be considered an old timer??

NOV 2008, almost 3 full years. I'm still doing boxes but not finding much. Mix it up with dimes and am starting on pennies with my Ryedale. I'm grateful for the finds that I have and am envious of the few members that continue to get great finds...few and far between here. Not getting through near as much as I'd like because I'm getting ready for baby #2. Lots to do before baby comes. I have the room complete and all the furniture assembled, but we have other house projects to get done before he arrives.

We're putting in a laundry room upstairs, much much painting and I still have to finish the dining room (wrap around shelving and some woodwork). We're also putting in a mudroom downstairs and expanding our pantry to our old laundry room. All this before July! That along with refinancing, mulching...etc. It's hard with Mrs. Phrostie so far along she's not able to get around too well to help. She does take care of #1 though!

If you guys ever want to check out my wife's new adventure post work shoot me a PM, she's starting a blog with some neat, cheap do it yourself decor. Pretty crafty, most likely little to no takers but it has pics of our baby room (I love to show it off!).

Happy Hunting!!

Re: Where are the "old timers?"

I remember the weekly posts from Rich and his wet sneakers... :laughing7:
The incredible finds day after day and week after week he posted.

Riley the Silver sniffing dog helping his owner seek out the elusive silver.

Obediah and the worlds gloom and doom, but that man could cull silver like no one else.

AGCoinHunter, great posts on finds he made.

I have only been here a little over 1 1/2 years but have noticed that alot of the older (Not In Age :laughing7: but in experience)
members have either left or are just lurking.

In general, the attitude of the board has changed over the relatively short time I have been here. The respect given to everyone has diminished quite a bit, questions about finds (Big Taboo) and general posts with no pic's. We love eye candy, not just stories.
Post a story and we need :coffee2: Post a story along with a pic and :hello2:.

I for one will miss APush and her weekly postings. She is a lucky one, not only does she enjoy the hobby with her husband, he does all the dumping..Guess that is why she is an AP... :hello:

APush, sorry to see you leave, we both know we have alot in common and I for one will be sad at not hearing about your Friday night dates with your husband over six bottles of wine and a box of halfs (Maybe I have that reversed.. :laughing7:)
Good luck in your future searching and may you have a vein of Silver as big as the state of Texas.

Still here, I check the board almost daily but don't post too much. Like others have said, CRH and the forum here aren't what they were 3-4 years ago.
I'm right there with ya. Been here for almost 7 years and it aint getting any better, still searching my weekly 2 just don't post results, usually aren't worth posting.

I personally know some old timers have changed their names and profiles to avoid detection of other members who like to fine their honey holes.
Pure Paranoia, it's all luck of the draw. Honey holes are a local hit and miss scenario, depending on what unknowing soul just deposited all her dead husbands coin rolls in the bank cause she needed the money or what kid stole some of their dads coin collection for spending money or what thief turns in the coins he just stole from someone's house cause he needed some money to support his drug habit.

Exactly!

Oh no, there are honey holes. One of my banks is the only bank I have found that gets bags hot off the machine. No one else around here can get those for me.

Yep. There are honey holes, just hit and miss like diggumup was saying, or atleast that's what I'm thinking.

I'm still here, too. Watching this changing world leave me behind - and I don't care anymore. Best wishes to everyone.

Re: Where are the "old timers?"

Working 6 days a week now, not too much time left for anything else. I check in now and then.

Still grab a couple o boxes on fridays but not finding much. Had a dream box of sorts a couple of weeks ago with 38 40%'s but it's a far cry from my finds just a short time ago. 5 out of the last 6 weeks have been skunks for me. I search about 1/5 of what I used too when I was laid off, and don't get any cold calls in at all, because all the banks are closed by the time I get off work.

Needless to say I have found less than 100 keepers this year......... :(

I really wish someone would compile a book of our best CRH Stories. Mine would include ...

Tried that. Just with a story. I wrote an article for Western and Eastern Treasures about CRH in general and one of the people on this board specifically (LJ). It was a good success and the magazine asked me for more articles on CRH. However the people on the board REALLY didn't like it. Said it was increasing the competition and making it harder to find silver. Heck, it probably DID increase the number of hunters, as that magazine has the type of readers that would get involved with this hobby. Plus it was a highlighted W&E article for about 4 months on the bottom of the treasurenet pages and on the W&E website. But not many liked the fact that our little secret had been mentioned in public and others were able to join in on the fun.

I wrote that article about 3 years ago. there are a lot of new people since then, but even they feel that since they are now in the door so to speak that others should not be told about CRH and spoil it for them. SO I haven't written any more articles. A book might have the same reaction

John - You did a great job with the article. Don't worry about letting the cat out of the bag so to speak because this "secret underworld of CRH'ing" has been out for umpteen years now and then some....way long before you wrote the article. No doubt that some readers of the article gave it a shot. Did it truly hurt the individual CRH'er. No way! It is a hobby that has been and will continue to be around for a long time.

There are many, many other forums on the internet that discuss CRH'ing....this is not the only site....it is not a secret I promise you.....check it out for yourself. There are more people that CRH that do not post at all....they just CRH...period. I know many personally.

I have personally introduced many folks into the hobby right here in my area. Why not share something that brings such enjoyment.....(greed??)....it was the thrill of the chase.....don't get me wrong, the finds were great, but the thrill of the chase was another category in itself. It was learning the system and manipulating it to your advantage.

Another thing, tellers in general are more educated about CRH'ing (silver) these days as well. Alot of it never makes it to the bank vaults or the Fed...the teller snatch it. Who could blame them?

Anyway, good luck to all of you out there.

Re: Where are the "old timers?"

I've been here over three years. The tone has definitely changed as of late. Mostly over the last year it seems.

Re: Where are the "old timers?"

still here. have not been searching any now for 3 weeks. thought i would give it a break and see if the silver would replenish. the boxes here just went sour and all i was getting was skunks. could not even find enough silver to cover my dump fees. so i guess i will take the summer off and start back in the fall.

Re: Where are the "old timers?"

I still post occasionally but I guess I have been here on the CRH boards since late '07. Haven't bought a box of halves since I used up the stockpile my bank initially ordered for me. Did not have a skunk for the first 6 months or so of hunting and then when I started to get boxes with current dates the finds were sparse so I quit getting them. Nowadays I hunt nickel rolls and still watch the pocket change.

Re: Where are the "old timers?"

Im here but been over 1.5yrs since I gave up on CRH'ng, maybe start up again in the fall time. :icon_pirat: :icon_pirat: :icon_pirat:
