Just would like to hear where you guys dump the goods off at and how they add it up .

Those tv commercials that tell you to send it in? :tongue3:

"Ripped off" is a relative term that could mean anything.

i take mine to an assayer, he melts it all down into a glob and scores its K content. then lops off a chunk for his fee. Then I take that to the jeweler, who gives me the equivalent in 24K gold shot in exchange for another small percentage. When it comes time to sell, a lot of jewlers will buy the shot from you at or just under spot because its cheaper than buying through a jewelery supply wholesaler. OR you can sell the 24K gold shot on ebay or whatever you want at spot because its 24K not some cruddy mix. Next time though I think I'm just going to keep the lump of mixed gold, it looked WAY cooler than the shot in a pill bottle.

Maybe I am missing something but sounds to me like you have 1 person too many with their hands in the pot on this transaction. No?

you can look at it that way, but i prefer having 24k in my collection, i'm sure you could go to a number of jewlers and try to just sell the items for metal content. Actually, I know of one jewler that buys jewlery at spot for cash, so it pays to shop around i guess. last time we cashed in our gold it was close to 5 ounces in 24k shot. It was also 450$ an ounce at the time.
