Before I would talk to her I made sure it really was an ebay employee. (she told me my ebay info that only an employee could find out)

I was at a school swapmeet and it was noisy so at the beginning I could not understand what she was saying. Turns out I was selling a Vintage SAWFISH ROSTRUM and they are on the endangered species list. Mine is old and was taken long before there was the endangered species act. But it doesn't matter to them.

She said she is pulling the auction and was very polite about it.
Also a potential customer asked a question about it shortly before she did this ;(

You must be pretty important to get a phone call. I just get a form letter style email when they pull my stuff down.

Once while listing I got a message on my screen saying I had to confirm my phone number, and I couldn't even do anything until I went through the process.

Then I get the email saying they'd tried to call me about the item of mine they had just taken down but couldn't get through.

It's a nice gesture, but strange.

I got a call from ebay a few months ago, telling me that they were pulling three or four auctions. I had used a brand name in my listing title for an item that wasn't made by them. It is keyword spamming, as they call it.

I am positive that one of my competitors had reported me. You wouldn't believe the competition there is for reproduction Lionel trains wire on ebay...the wire that you use to hook up a train track switch to a remote control unit.

Anyway, ebay called and said that I was violating their listing practices. I was super busy when they called, and should have realized that the ebay rep was giving me an out...and that he was giving me an opportunity to pull the auction myself.

Had my brain been working, I could have pulled those auctions, and changed the listing title, removing the word "Lionel", which is a brand name. Instead, in my infinite wisdom, mostly because I was knee deep in getting some hard ebay shipments out, I let them pull the listings, which I lost forever. I had to create totally new listings for those items.

I spent another 35 minutes of my life relisting those items, when I could have modified the one word.

Lesson learned, on my part.

That SAWFISH ROSTRUM is pretty cool. I have one that I inherited from my Grandfather when he passed away. I have heard they can be quite valuable if you can find a way to sell them without getting in trouble with the FEDS.

here ya go

NOTE: The international trade of all sawfish bills were banned by the C.I.T.E.S. convention in June 2007 due to their being categorized as ENDANGERED, Appendix I. This means that no more can be caught. It means that if you have one in your possession, you can re-sell it but only within the country it resided as of June 2007. You cannot ship it beyond your country's borders. Also, you cannot sell it on ebay.

I tried selling a vintage food thermometer on ebay. So any potential buyer would be warned, I mentioned that it contained mercury. I got a call from them telling me they were going to remove my listing due to the mercury content. I just went along with it and, because I didn't want to ruin anything for others, I didn't tell him to see how many pages there are on ebay just for mercury switches. What pray tell could possibly be hazardous in a MERCURY switch?? :)

Didn't know mercury thermometers were prohibited :(

When I list jewelry with the color "ivory", I get a pop up message saying to be careful; you can't sell real ivory. I'm like, stupid computer, it's a color, not a stone.
