Whites DFX vs TDI

White's DFX vs TDI

I currently have a DFX, I do coinshooting, all dirt' no beaches (sand), 7.5 inches seems to be the max that I can get on the DFX. Do I want to invest in the TDI for coin shooting? I know it was designed for gold prospecting but the ads claim 12 inches on coins too. Anyone have opinions or experience to offer?

I have not played with the TDI, but from what I have read it would be very deep and I for one would wrap it around a tree when digging trash from great depths. There is no way that it disc. as well as a normal VLF. With the DFX you have the option of using a larger coil to get a little deeper. Course you can always save a hunk of money and just use a PI Pro too.

When I Got my TDI, we went down to a local volley ball court. I buried a average size gold ring at the bottom of the sand which was 14 inches deep. I had no problem getting a good signal.

Hi,

The DFX is all about discrimination. With the TDI you sacrifice discrimination for sheer depth. For run of the mill coin detecting the TDI is probably not what most people would want.

A person using a TDI usually needs two things. First, they are after high value targets. Gold nuggets, gold and platinum jewelry, gold coins or very high value silver coins, high value relics, etc. Targets that are worth extra effort. And second, they have ground mineralization issues that are severely impeding the ability of the best VLF units to get anywhere near normal depths. They know there is something there down deeper worth going after but VLF is just not hacking it. This person would be willing to dig quite a few junk items just to get that one super good find. That's the kind of person the TDI was designed for.
