White's MXT VDI Readings

Was wondering what VDI readings others are getting for "nuggets". My MXT shows "foil" and +12 to +14 VDI for small pickers under 1 gram. How about larger nuggets? Anyone have success finding larger nuggets?

The VDI readings for the same object can vary between two machines. Also the VDI's will be a little different depending on it's orientation to the coil. I know this doesn't help you but I find that sometimes it's better to just put duct tape over the display and go by the sounds. The Goldmaster doesn't have a display nor do any of the main nugget detectors by others.

Here is some information Reno Chris has posted. He has done a lot of work with the MXT. His VDI section for nuggets should answer your questions.
Using this unit at Ganes Creek one trick the users use is to get a VDI number of the target and dig a little. If the VDI number goes up it is non ferrous and if it goes down it is ferrous. You see the deeper you go the more ground mineralization your detector reads and thus the VDI reads more toward the iron end with deeper targets.

Hey Baker - What a wealth of information, exactly what I was looking for. I really appreciate the info. I have passed on so many "iron" targets, I can't count them, what a dummy. In known gold producing areas, now I'll dig everything for sure, lol. Can't thank you enough, how about a 10% finder's fee, lol. Seriously, just the info I was looking for and I do appreciate it. Alot of backtracking is now in order for me. HH John
