Who really cleans up ALL the trash they find metal detecting?

If I win Powerball, I'm going to hire a couple gardeners to come in behind me and fill my holes, and make everything spotless. Even when I go to the beach, these guys will prevent kids and people from bugging me. These "gardeners" will also be about the size of Dwayne Johnson, and will be instructed to beat the stuffing out of anyone they catch seeding the beach with zincons, or not filling their own holes or leaving trash.

I hope I can say this right without stomping on anyones toes. If I do it isn't intentional.
I'm totally new to this and have a lot to learn.I know that I should did ALL signals. My primary interest is finding coin so I'm going to put in a lot of extra time digging trash. That's how you learn. After watching literally hundreds of youtube clips I am beginning to change my mindset about metal detecting and the equipment used.I couldn't count the times I have seen some guy find a really nice piece and when asked what kind of signal he got, it basically rang up as trash.
Now if I change my mindset and become a "relic" hunter, and dig everything,it'll take a lot more time and a lot more digging but I'll still find just as many coins and won't be leaving other good finds in the ground. Now on the touchy subject of equipment,if I do this I can't see why i will need anything newer or better than my old white's 4900D.Now I know you all love your machines and that's fine but is it really necessary to spend that kind of money and go to the field and just dig the beat signals and possibly leave goodies behind? When you are doing that the only thing you are saving is time, and that time is costing you the price of the items you left in the ground. Beside all that,I'm not getting into this to feel pressured and have to rush from one signal to another. I don't thing that is what it is all about. It is not akin to basketball but rather more akin to golf.
Hope you all understand what I am trying to say and realize it is not meant as a put down. And so the answer is yes. Dig it all and take it all with you.

I agree with that, I will dig everything above iron and keep everything except for recognizable large trash such as beer cans, if I don't know what it is I will keep it to check. I will never throw anything I find away, I have found "treasure" in my bucket of junk that I have found. Everything from watch parts to what may be a fur trade ring. I still prefer my more expensive T2 SE for obvious reasons, depth, target separation, not as much iron masking, and precision. I do not look at numbers either, I just go by sound, if it makes a noise and it is above the iron I will dig it. Considering my discrimination is literally one number above iron I will dig everything that beeps. I have found out that most old buttons sound just like shotgun shells, I have found a couple colonial coppers that read as pull tab, the monogrammed silver shoe buckle I found read just like a pull-tab too. I also know that small silver coins such as half dimes, and also some Indian Head Cents show up in the "Pulltab and Zincoln range". Anyways, Those are just my thoughts.

"Just dig everything that beeps if you want to find treasure"

I carry out all trash... no matter how much.
IF you cannot carry it all... make "piles"... then when you quit go around and gather.
Carry a plastic grocery bag.

I always felt like it was just like picking up dog poop... heh

It really depends on where I am hunting. Some places there is no way possible to get the large iron out. One place I hunt in the water is beside CW rail road tracks and the spikes, plates, bolts and such would sink my kayak. I will hunt an area clean and then pile it all right there back under the water. It sounds bad but I make up for it on the River Rescue clean up days with my duck boat. A man can only carry so much!

Keppy... your "plight" would be an exception to the rule in my book.

Not that much trash anywhere here like that.

I know scrap is worth money but sometimes its just way to far and to much. The exception to the rule is some Civil war gauge rail road track. That I am getting out:thumbsup: If I hunted a park and was just coin shooting it would be no problem.

I know what you mean i find a lot of scrap iron at times .. And there is no way for me to get it to my truck... But i still look at it as money lost..

One of the key things I always taught at treasure hunts and in my writings in W&E Treasures, was to pick up ALL trash, no matter how much. Two reasons.... assuming you asked for permission to hunt, you can show the property owner how much you cleaned their property. This get's you welcomed back. If some items are too big or if you get overloaded, leave the junk in a pile and ask the owner for a bag (show them your full bag!) so you can go get it and they will either give you a bag or tell you to leave it and they will dispose of it. Second, the more you clean a spot out, the more depth and serious searching you can do next time! One more thing....Always fill your holes!!

I found this when I cleaned up my trash.

i always take out the trash i dig

It is a matter of doing the right thing.

Anything I dug up, even over 30 years ago, went in a trash pocket (wore that pocket out and had to get a new apron).

The right thing to do.

But as for playing pick-up of all the other trash I ran into laying on the grass, I just couldn't handle all that mess.....

I pick up most of the loose trash that I come across, but sometimes I have to think about it, when I am digging because I am so focused. I picked up a beer can a few days ago and went to put it in my pouch and it smelled like someone was spitting in the can. Instead, I crushed it and laid it off the owner's yard and closer to the road.

I used to pick up everything and then would fill up my pouch and then have to go and empty it. I found myself picking up trash 30% of the time instead of digging. I will still pick up as much as I can in someone's yard, but I dig at a lot of trashy, empty lots and I am not as careful. I always carry off any glass, or trash metal that is in the hole. It is easy to do, and it keeps me from digging it back up later.

Last year, I received permission to detect a lot next to a church. There was this large tree branch that fell on the church's fence. I spent 30-45 minutes removing the heavy thing and breaking up as much of the smaller things that I could and laying in a pile. The main part of the branch was 8-10 inches in diameter. The next week I went back out to detect the lot and one of the church officials came out walking 100 mph and told me that he would allow me to detect but not dig and he had a really bad attitude and told me that the secretary told me wrong. It made me wonder if all the scratches on my body from breaking up the limbs was worth it.

I carry out everything I dig. I hunt parks 90% of the time. If people saw all the jagged metal, just lurking below the surface, they would pay us to detect to protect their barefoot kids

I was going to take it to American Pickers. And see if Mike would buy it.

It would be staying in my collection for sure. Never sold a thing yet or will anytime soon! [emoji2]

If I can carry it, I'll pack it out
