Why can't people follow the rules?

Hello to everyone. I've been reading your forum for a while now and enjoy it, lots of good info here. I've been coin roll hunting for quite some time now and am just getting a little upset lately at these people who get their box of halves home, unroll the mwr on 1 end and then try and neatly roll it back down and rebox it and take it back to the bank. Don't you understand that it is likely that brinks, or who ever, is going to just reship that box back out to someone else (like me) and just piss us off. I rewrap all of my rolls with the rolls that the bank supplies for free to me so that when I bring my box to my dump bank it will be shipped back, they will be opened and rewraped by the distributer again, thus giving us the opportunity to get some damn silver. When you reroll the machine roll back down neatly you are cheating your self and others out of it recerculating through the system again. So if people keep doing this, we are going to just keep getting the same boxes and stop the circulation of coin. I don't think 1 thing has to do with the other but almost half of the coins in my box were sprayed with orange spray paint if anyone is curious. Sorry no pics, camera is not working. I hope who ever is doing this gets their own dumps back and doesn't find anymore silver! There is nothing more disheartening than picking up your boxes, seeing the box is allready been cut open,(and I know they were delivered that way) and going home with them knowing you and your kids aren't going to find anything that night. Follow the rules people please! I have allways done it this way and I can bring in 2000.00 at a time to my dump bank with no problems. Sorry to vent here, but I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who gets this upset when it happens to them. Good luck to everyone who does this hobby the rightway.

Sorry, not trying to preach to anyone here, everyone seems really nice, and informed. I'm hoping people who just surf the forum that may do this practice will get a clue, not intending to offend anyone here. I read through this forum most everynight and thoroughly enjoy it.

I will chime in here on this subject. I myself re-roll in the MWR once I am done searching and return to my dump bank in the brinks or loomis box. I for a fact know that my dump bank has to open each and every roll I dump and dump in a bag to return to brinks. I know this and have seen this. ( I have seen the brinks come in while I was there and come out with bags of halfs). I was asked by my dump bank to put them in the brinks boxes as it is easier to store in the vault until they are ready to ship out. I used to re-roll in new sleeves until my bank said to just re-roll and re-box if it was easier. I have yet to find a bank around here that has a coin machine that accepts half's or dollar coins. We have to re-roll. I have been doing this for well over a year and have never gotten any boxes back that have been re-rolled. My pick up bank is a different company but I do get from both brinks and loomis. So this all depends on your dump bank. I have asked about using the coin lock bags and they told me it would be better for me to not as this can hold up my funds. They have also asked that I dump at least 1k as this is what they need to have to ship out. I only dump 1k at a time. I am well aware of the rules of the road and this was well discussed with my dump bank on what was easier for them. I am sorry to hear the issues you are having but this is also part of the game. I get the orange painted halves here in westchester NY all the time, where are you from?

as for the rules , some vary depending on where you live and what your bank would like you to do - keep your bank happy and they will keep you happy is my own rule

It seems like you have a great relationship with your bank so why not take it to the next level and save everyone time and bag them up yourself if they will let you.

You might try and suggest this to them as a time saver for them. If they trust your rolled returns why can't they trust your bagged returns?

I was told room in the vault was a huge issue and the boxes store better. IDK thats what I was told. I do know the vault manager is a coin person too and he has told me of some of his finds and he does like going through the rolls to bag so maybe this is why he wants them boxed and not bagged.

I received this from Brinks. 50 nicely CWRs. Brinks will use whatever boxes in my area. Are you using the same wrapper?



If the dump bank decides not unopen the rolls, just put whole rolls in a plastic bag, and ship them out. Then the Brinks will, and did ship them back to a new customer.

An intelligent person will make wrong statement if s/he bases on limited data.

Personally, I would prefer to know if they were dumps or not. So that I don't have to waste my time to search them. If they're repackaged dumps, I just weigh and dump. Simple.

I have been holding back from responding to this thread, but...I will say this:

Some people return coin the way their bank asks them to, and for some it is easy to return the coin in the original wrappers. So what? If you are receiving these boxes, move on. Find a bank serviced by another courier/processor. Improvise, adapt, and overcome.

This may come as a surprise to many of you, but there are no "rules" in this hobby outside the requirements banks have for ordering and returning coins. I have had other CRHers outright ask to buy boxes they know I ordered, while I am waiting in line behind them. I have met others who come up to me and blurt out their finds to me, 3 feet from the teller bench. One guy asked one of my pickup banks to order 20 boxes for him, twice/week. Another brought in some havles and showed the tellers how to tell silver from non silver. And the list goes on and on....and I have only been doing this since October 2011!

CRHing is the wild west of numismatics.

You need a thick skin for this endeavor. If you are easily discouraged I recommended pennies.

We had a similar thread a couple days ago and I find this practice to be as rude as you do. I gotten two boxes last week that where rolled on the same box and taped on the opened end. I think is an inconsiderate practice but to each its own...

I guess at the end of the day, there are no real rules. Common courtesy would be nice but oh well. I get allot of boxes so one box will not kill my week, but I feel sorry for those hunters that can only get one box or two a week . They wait all week for their box and then they end up with someone else searched crap. I will leave to Karma to rectify the situation. By the way to add insult to injury, I was off 200 bucks last week on my returns, I can only assume one of these boxes was short.

I 2nd this. I too rewrap into the MWR. My bank too has them placed into coin bags before pickup. Maybe some banks somewhere are lazy and their carriers can take the boxes back...but not mine.

CU's mostly have a machine they run coin through...so I use them a lot!

Hello, yes I am using those wraps, That is what my dump bank gives me to re wrap in. I asked about the bags and was told it was a 3% fee for using them, but if I rewrapped them there was no fee and I could bring in as much as needed, I limit that to 2 dumps a week of 1000.00. I have never recieved a box like your pic shows, always mwr's. Thanks.

Rant off. Yes, "Rules" may have not been the right term to use, rather, common courtesy i guess, which in the last 10 yrs has really declined in society ( whole other subject). My comment was more geared toward the person\s who take the time to roll the edge back down neatly so it looks like the box was just returned and never searched, thus giving the processors the opportunity to just say, eh, why send these throught the machine, just repack them and send them out. I am no expert on how the coins are processed ( jugding by what I've read over time no one really knows how it works exactly and may be different across the US) seeing the pic a few posts up with the cwr's in the brinks box makes me wonder now. I have a thick enough skin for the hobby (or I would have givin up a long time ago) and we search pennies, nickels and dimes too, I guess I just let the skunk streak hear lately get the best of me, and yes I too have encountered some of your same situations as you mentioned above and realize it is part of the game, to each his/her own. Agreed!!! What I do is , strictly pick up only from Brinks, and only dump at Garda, that way I don't pick up my own dump.
