Why would buried treasure be abandoned ?

I can just see all of those poor dirt farmers hard at work digging that hole and laughing in thought of the generations ahead who will surely associate it with treasure. "Man, this is going to be the best prank we've ever played!" :laughing9:

Another Theory

Important to keep in mind: 1200 years ago, the Atlantic Ocean would have been at least 12 feet/3.65 meters lower than today, and Mahone Bay shorelines would have been significantly further out, perhaps as much as 50-feet/15.25-meters, to about 100-feet/30.5-meters, or more.

An obvious example of the erosion and rising sea, is to be found at Westhaver's Island, which is number 4 across from the Mader's Cove Clay-Shaft. In the 1750's, when the area was plotted for properties that could be acquired by immigrants, Westerhaver's Island was large enough to have had a small farm, as well as a lighthouse and a house for the light-keeper's family. Now, that island is about the size of a triple garage.

Oak Island Unearthed - exploring the Mayan / Aztec connection (Good article, check it out)

If the water level was much lower, it would be possible underground caverns were dry and used by people around 500-1000 AD.
Money pit could have been a ventilation shaft.
One theory is the Aztec, riding the Golf stream, had been mining for gold & clay and may have later been used to hide Montezuma's body and treasure when Mexico was invaded.

So instead of Seven must Die, It could be "Montezuma's Revenge."

There would be one man on a ship, maybe two that could have sailed back to Oak island. The Navigator/Pilot and possibly the Captain.

At that time frame they would only have latitude readings and possibly not too accurate.

A version of this theory was offered on an earlier season by the Laginas. If I remember correctly the dude claimed the treasure (or was it body - Don't remember) was buried somewhere under Nolans cross.

It is pretty difficult to believe that the Aztecs would of sailed all the way up North America to OI and picked this small island to bury their dead ruler.

Thanks for the theory Bud will read the referenced article when I get a chance...

That's what I have been saying. There was no worry about anyone who helped on any project on oak island being able to come back to get it assuming they got back on the boat. Sure they may have talked and told people but could not come back to get it ontheir own..

Hey Singlestack, Thank you for Intelligent responses. How long that take ya?

There is no need for your negativity hear, no ones making a claim.

I saw Tomb Raider on the weekend (It was OK) and that raises another "theoretical plausible reason' for burying treasure/something and abandoning it. That is the thing was toxic and dangerous and was buried so deep and so far away with the intention of never being discovered. Dumping in the ocean may have meant the toxic/dangerous thing could of contaminated the ocean/environment.

I suppose this is the most scary of 'theoretical plausible' reasons for such an effort to hide something on OI. "What If" the Laginas actually find something and release the zombie apocalypse on the planet... :tard:

What if this is true... They MUST be stopped... We need an online petition to stop another season... We all could die if they DRAIN THE SWAMP........

So far the "Theoretically plausible" reasons for abandoning treasure in the money pit tha have been offered are: (Note: I do not think there is treasure buried there... This is just a discussion as to Why someone may of buried treasure there and then abandoned it. To see if there is even any reasons that are theoretically plausible)

1. They people who buried the treasure all died in a shipping accident after burying treasure.
2. The people who buried the treasure there could not find it again.
3. That what was buried there was a person/king and was not meant to be dug up again
4. That the treasure was buried with the intention of it not being recovered for a generation. Clues were left for it to be found in the future.
5. That something toxic/dangerous was buried there and never meant to be recovered.

It is interesting that out of these ideas put forward by members the only one actually discussed on the TV show was the Aztec king being buried there....

Gazzahk: Those here who continue to spout wild fictional stories as factual evidence in light of the fact that it’s been proven nothing of significance ever existed on oak island, are simply attempting to hold on to some semblance of credibility, thus the continued postings with cartoons, references to irrelevant books and writings, and cuts from ancient aliens, etc.

You as well as many others have found the, “TRUTH”...

The “TRUTH” that oak island is a hoax...

I am not saying I believe anything is there. BUT the pyramids were built thousands of years ago, A pit at 170 feet deep with tunnels is not implausible even with a water trap,
