You should have some serious coin folks look at that - What - did a penny planchet dive into a nickel die or what ?

That could be worth some serious scratch . Argentium.

Congrats on those nice finds!
THAT WIERD NICKEL IS REALLY WIERD.
It looks like 2 coins were squashed together under high pressure.
Never saw anything like that either. Maybe someone here has a
better explanation.
Anyway, a really cool find!

I don't know much- but I know that nickel could be worth BIG money to somebody- Error coins have a huge market, and that's a very unique one.

Congratulations, :)

Seems to me to be a mis-strike AND a planchet error.

Nice find! Might consider getting that looked at!

Congrats!

When I first looked at this I thought maybe a nickel was cut the placed over a penny, but at closer look the penny has a (not sure of term) Die clash ..... so this maybe a error coin you should post this in the coin forum here on tnet ie maybe email a member on here named Oddcoins he would probly know what it is....

In my opinion the piece does NOT look like a true mint-made error coin. A presume it was manipulated outside the US mint.

But to be certain I'd suggest taking nice close-up pictures of the obverse & reverse and e-mail the pic's to the world's leading authority on error coins ~ Fred Weinberg ~ [email protected] ~ he'd be able to tell you for sure.

First Off nice Finds.

the Nickel is facing right.
Should be Left
So
i'd say it is a Manufactured Fake
by somone pressing the coins together.
either on Purpose or accidently.

being they both have the same date and mint mark
I'd guess the Former. "On Purpose"

Artz,

Being a collector of odd coins myself, I will chime in here to say I would send you $20 (Twenty)
for that "it" coin, just because it is unique, I don't care if it was purposely made. I just like interesting
stuff. let me know (pm or something) if you ever wish to part with it.

I have made a few quarters that way....
Take a penny and a nickel, smash them in a screw press ( right amount of pressure ) and bam nickel turns into a quarter, then throw the penny out.
I still have a few left..
Vending machines love them.... ;D ;D ;D

I wonder if it's one that I made. ???

I would send that in to one of the authenticating businesses. The reason the Jeff nickle is facing the wrong way is because it was struck backwards.....producing what you see. I think you have a genuine GREAT COIN, but before sending it in, check with any of the coin dealers who you consider honest, and see what
their reaction to it is. If they offer ANYTHING TO YOU FOR THE COIN, don't sell.....send it in....get it authenticated.

Hope its a good one!!! And, keep us posted on what is the outcome of this coinventure.

As a kid, I too have made these by smashing coins together. The reversed impressions and the mixed denominations (especially) are the indications it is a homemade "error". A real brockage error is similar looking (google "brockage error" for more info)

Makes perfect sense.
DP BOB, you have the best animated avatar I've seen yet. I can't stop staring at it.

If it was from a die, the designs would all be raised. In this case it seems as if they are pressed in by another coin.
It is still a pretty cool find but very doubtful that its an error. 8)
