Since I am pretty snowbound like most of my northern friends. I tumbled some of my clad a few weeks ago. I found this wheat in with other change after tumbling. It was pretty much a marble size chunk of asphalt with a copper looking rim when I put it.

As you can see it is a wheat. I didn't see VDB under the shoulder so in theory it could be pre 1918, but maybe I just can't see it that well.

For grins, anyone want guess the date? I'll tumble it more this week until it is visible. At this point I don't know.

For no particular reason I am guessing it is a 56-D.

1957 seems to be popular find......................57

I'm guessing 1955.

If there is no VDB, I'd guess a 1917.

Has to be between 09 and 17 so since cuda took the largest mintage I will say 1910.

1947, take it to the bank

PullTabPete,

Put me down for 1957, I think the best things happened that year.

Mike

Thanks all for the replies.

I checked again and didn't see the VDB on shoulder so maybe it is pre-1918? I put in the tumbler yesterday and the drum stopped spinning sometime overnight. I'll see if I can fix the tumbler today.

Sorry for the added suspense.

Pete

Soak it in some acetone. That should dissolve the asphalt and not damage the coin.
