Since I am pretty snowbound like most of my northern friends. I tumbled some of my clad a few weeks ago. I found this wheat in with other change after tumbling. It was pretty much a marble size chunk of asphalt with a copper looking rim when I put it.

As you can see it is a wheat. I didn't see VDB under the shoulder so in theory it could be pre 1918, but maybe I just can't see it that well.

For grins, anyone want guess the date? I'll tumble it more this week until it is visible. At this point I don't know.

For no particular reason I am guessing it is a 56-D.

Sorry again for the delay. Had to get a new belt for the tumbler. It is installed and tumbling now, so hopefully by tomorrow I will know.

No detecting here for a while, it was -14 or something like that last night and doesn't see to be improving anytime soon.

HH,

Pete

Your killing us Pete. You could have grabbed a rubber band! Lol

oh no!! another of those ' find of a lifetime' then no more info! you tease

Still tumbling checked an hour ago while getting a beer. Frig and tumbler are in the basement.
More asphalt came off, but still covering the important spot.

If I'm not close I'll feel like a moron, since everyone I have ever seen with that hue to it was in the date range I gave, but then again you never said it came out of the dirt or not...was it a trick question ? Lol
Btw up kinda late you Michigander you! Lol

I think it is older also. The In God We Trust motto just looks older to me.

I did pull it out this morning and you can see it still has a ways to go. I was tumbling it in Pea gravel but it is rubbing the detail off. So I put it in sand today, but it will take a lot longer now. Maybe I do need to get some acetone.

Anyways I'm going to let it go for a few more days and see what happens.

soak it in gasoline for a day

Spray some WD-40 on it and wipe it with a rag.

before it got to cold,I found a 44 wheat

Looks like we have something in common. It is a 44.

Thanks for all the responses, guess there was a vdb under the shoulder.

Guess it was one year off the 1943 copper, maybe next time.
