Ok so yesterday morning at Harris park in Lee's Summit. I find a white pill bottle about 4" down. I unearth it and shake it up and hear coins in it. Well I start freaking out a little and used my knife to pop the lid off. I then empty out four nickels (1980,1987,1988 and 1990). At first I was kinda disappointed that there wasn't any silver in there but at the bottom of the bottle I find a folded up business card with Richard Abbot's name on it. He writes " I always dream of finding the big one" he also wrote his address and the date of 06/18/1994 ( almost 20 years! ). On the back he wrote " I am hunting with a fisher CZ6, call me up and tell me all you know". I thought that was cooler than any silver coin, so I keep hunting through out the day and find my first two silver coins. Today I found my third, an 1892 silver dime. I started to think Mr. Abbott's little cache had something to do with it. I decided to drop by his house and show him my treasures. A middle aged man answers the door and explains that Mr Abbott passed on a few years back and his kids moved out to Joplin. He told me that Richard was an avid metal detector and had numerous bottles prepared that he didn't get to plant. I left the house feeling very sad, wishing I could have talked to him and learned what he knew. I hope he finds the big one in heaven.

That's super cool right there!

Ultra cool story , many time's I have thought about having cards made up as he did.

One of the best stories on T-net. Keep that card for good luck and I'm sure Mr.Abbot is looking down and smiling at your find :)

This thread got me thinking yesterday about how cool it would be to have some custom tokens made up for others to find. Anyone know of any good sources for custom tokens?

I would like my tokens to say "I detected this first." :D

I think I did see one like that once...some guy was making up his own homemade custom tags and it said something like that LOL....it was funny!

Found out several things from this cool thread. Mr. Abbott, would have loved to meet him too. Great story, glad you tried to contact him. I would suggest you find the family in Joplin. Should not be too hard to do. AND< I found a new neighbor that metal detects!

Kind of like a lottery day! I am only 10 miles or so from you. Sent you a message.
