Wonder why this particular creek only gives up brokes??

I’m creek hunter. There are 5 small creeks that transverse our farm and all of them yield artifacts. One particular creek, for some reason, never gives up an intact point. I’ve found a couple dozen in it and every one is missing either the top, the base or both. Yesterday I found four broken points and one nice little unifaced scraper.

Thoughts on why why all I ever find in this creek is brokes?

If you've found a couple of dozen broken points and 5 in one day in that creek, perfect beauties have to be in it too and it is only a matter of time until you find them. Plus you're in MO. Great sounding creek, great finds, great state and area! Good luck!

Thoughts on why why all I ever find in this creek is brokes?

Many times the tumbling action of the creek will cause points to strike other objects and break. At a creek in north Florida, we used to hunt a site that had a huge flint rock literally hanging over the edge. There were thousands of flakes, chips and broken points in the water below, and we think it was because they manufactured tools at that spot. You would think that amongst the thousands we would've found a whole point, but we never did!

The creek must of lots of current would be my guess. They tend to tumble when on high flow and if the bottom is mostly cobbles that would be why. The creeks here are a mixture of sand and cobbles and the sand helps keep them intact but I do find plenty of broken ones myself.

I believe that the first two are just as the Indians left them, except maybe the tip on the first one. Can't see it well enough to say one way or the other. The third could be either way. Not seeing any damage on the fourth and fifth in the pics. I don't have a doubt that eventually, you'll pull out a perfect one. Best of luck!

Maybe that creek was a hot trail, and all those were used on animals, thus broken. OR, it was a bad shot who hunted there and missed all the time.
