I'm sitting at my desk this morning working away like a good little lemming should, when I happen to glance down at two copper pennies I have sitting on my computer. I noticed one had a strange pattern on it, didn't look like scratches or post mint damage. So I looked it up...

Turns out there's cents nicknamed "woodys". They look like wood due to a poor alloy mix...from what I understand. I'd never seen this variety mentioned on this forum so I thought I'd post some pictures. Does anyone here collect these?

never heard of it, looks neat though!

Thought you were talking about me..

IMHO woodys are far too common to collect. They are cool though.

I have noticed some nickels that looked like that also, didn't keep them but they looked about the same as your cent. I had never heard of it. It does look neat on the pennies.
