Hit the same fields I had been working. After a good soaking the whispers turned up a World War 1 Navy button along with a few oddities. The lead ball measures in at 7/8 of an inch, second biggest from the same field. One nice muddy day all in all. Pics of the buckle I restored. Arty

really like the button and the buckel nice stuff man

Great stuff Arty

Nice Navy Button and Shoe button cover,
haven't seen one of those found in a while
In Pic #2, the top item looks interesting, can you see what that impression is?
(or am I seeing things :tongue3: , it looks silvery :o )
The bottom piece (bar) I think is a piece of tinkers solder.
I have a twin to your cow toy :D
Great job fixing up that buckle! did you use some heat?
Thanks for showing! Best digs

Thanks all. Herbie the top item second pic has a extensive stamp including a patent date and is from a bottle brush Co. I'm still in the process of cleaning it up to get the rest of the key info. Shoe button cover. I was not sure if it was that or a embellishment from the bottom of the short pants. It is one of the nicest I have found. Yes I used heat but not enough. I usually torch until cherry red and quench it in cold water to soften the brittle metals. I tried using a heat gun this time around experimenting. I was trying to keep the original patina intact. No go on the heat gun or the green patina. Best to torch and repatinize. I chose gold under black and polished instead of original green patina. Arty

Yo Arty nice stuff man! Can't wait to get out soon. Waiting for the brush to die. :icon_thumleft:

Sweet finds! What does the back of the button look like? Maybe a bit older than WWI!

Thanks Jim and Neil. Neil the back mark reads, J.C. Shabeck, * Prov. RI *. I was not sure of the time period and placed it on the, What Is It section of Tnet. http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,426150.0.htm It was ID as World War 1. I found Navy buttons from World War 1 on ebay since, and the back mark is without the J.C. leaving my button in limbo. Neil any info would be appreciated. Jim see you next Sunday. Arty

Arty,
Nice job on that twisted buckle. :hello2: You really did a great job with it. I'll have to try that heating method next time.
