Would you buy a Discovery 2200 if you already had an ACE 250? Feedback please.

Detector(s) used
Explorer XS/II & Garrett ACE 250
Probably not :).........what actually happened is that I've been thinking of getting a detector that I could have as a loaner, but I didn't want to give them the absolute low end 1100 that I also have. I wanted something that even on the low end scale, I would actually hunt with while allowing my hunting partner to use the ACE. Anyhow, out of the blue looking through Craig's list sales, I type in metal detector and out comes an ad for a Discovery 2200 for $75, brand new in the box. Now that in my opinion and after looking at closing prices on Ebay and elsewhere is a darn good price.......and well, let me laught here, much better than buying a Titan 2000 right? Hell yeah. And having used the 1100 successfully, this should not be a bad deal. Anyhow, the guy shows up and sure enough with a brand spanking new in the box 2200, still wrapped up in original packaging. Fired the machine up this morning, did a little air test with a quarter and dime and will make a better than rookie estimate that this thing will definately scoop up the 4" coins. PP'ing will have to be raw X'ing as this thing has no PP'er. What can the 2200 users here tell me about this thing? I have experience with the 1100 only in the BH line. I'll definately give it a swing this weekend.

I am desperately trying to find a machine for my 8 y/o daughter and I only have $100 to spend. Can you tell me where you found this machine for $75 (if they have more than one you aren't going to buy) please?

Unfortunately, this was a one time lucky event where I happened to be looking though Craig's List. Here is the link......http://newyork.craigslist.org/ You would have to seek out an area close to you. Anyhow, your best bet would probably be Ebay. There are not as many out there as before when people scooped them up from Radioshack and resold so many of them, that there was an obvious price competition. I now have an almost new but used Bounty Hunter Discovery 1100 which I am willing to part with. This detector is one step below the 2200 and would make a decent detector for a child in my opinion. I'll offer it to you right now for $30 plus whatever shipping and handling would cost (I'd say about $15 maybe more, maybe less). PM me if you are interested. What do you think guys? Is that a fair price? Anyhow, I can get it to you in the original box, with instructions, and I assure you that it works as it's supposed to. I used it for two months before I got my ACE 250 and it found me silver, which I posted here.

check out the Garrett Ace 150s. they ought to be somewhere in your price range, and they are pretty good. for a little more (around 200$) you could get a 250 which are really nice for the price.

I have both machines in my home, the Ace and the 2200. Both are fairly good machines. I interchange the use of them and do about as well with either. The 2200 is actually my 9 year old daughter's. She can swing that thing like a pro.

The only thing I do not like is the feel of the 2200. It feels flimsy compared to the Ace in my hand. It is not built as good as the Garrett.

Stick with the Ace and buy a second one or the Ace150.

I'll have to agree with DM. However I would upgrade from the 2200 and maybe get the ACE 150 or a Tesoro Silver Umax. Both are built to last with the Tesoro having a livetime warranty to boot.
