Hey guys,
I hhad one of my best days ever today. Hit this old house with my friend Bruce today. Twenty minutes in i get a solid quarter hit. Dig down and see a nice 1958 silver washington. I am stoked since its only my 4th quarter, as i recheck the hole i get a nice surpirse, another quarter this one 1956 in the same hole. First time i ever get two silver quarters in one hole. I move on and about an hr later i get a weird hit on my Whites. Dig down and its out, finally find it and at first i thought it was an old IH, thats was until i saw the eagle flying. Another first as i was looking at my first and only Flying eagle cent, 1858, in pretty good shape to. I was about to call it a day when my detecting parter convinced me to stay, boy was i glad i did. alittle while later i got another strang hit. This time the eagle wasnt on a coin but rather on a button. two feet away i dig his brother both are the size of a nickle, maybe alittle larger. And have I ( INfantry i guess) on there chests. There backmarks are "Young Smith & Co. New York" any info on these would be great. Both buttons are two piece. I checked Alberts and found a few with the same backmark so im not sure what they are. Hope the are CW as this would also be a first for me.

Looks like you had an awesome time! You got a flying eagle, silver, and a CW button! That seems like an awesome hunt to me!

Man, what a great hunt! I love the variety of good stuff, especially I like the two piece Infantry Officer buttons, hey if you found two there may be more there, I hope so.

Wow Keith . . . . That was a hunt loaded with rariety, first of all 2 silver quarters in one hole Then, Flying Eagle Cents are rarely ever found with detectors Then, not only one but two ultra rare military buttons dating back to before the CW A huge congratulations!

How old was the house? Also, what did your buddy find?

The house dates to the mid 1700's. My partner got permission to detect the house last week, but after some investigational work he found that alot of the land was changed over the years, and since he only got an IH in 4 hr of hunting he didnt want to go. I convinced him and before you know it we where diggin goodys. He got another military button, im not sure whaqt though. It looked like a figure standing inn the middle and had stars around it. That was all he got while i was there. I left alittle early for the Yanks game. LOL sure enough he calls me an hr later and tells me he hit another IH and a 17?? Spanish half reale.

Any info on the buttons as far as how to clean them up and if there worth anything?

Wow, what a day! I can't get enough of Flying Eagles. Never find one, but I buy them all the time on eBay. Awesome button. I guess you'll be going back to that site! Can't wait to see what else comes from there...

aluminum jelly and not for long ---DO NOT USE NAVAL JELLY TOO HARSH BY FAR * handle with care --plain water and a soft tooth brush first .
