So My Buddy and I finally got out for our first hunt of the fall season.
We figured with the couple of rains maybe we could get a shovel into the ground again.
Out looking for some gold rush relics and came upon some old dredgings.
We were hitting the basic iron junk, shotgun casings and a few early riveted shovel heads.
So we knew we were in a good place and were hoping for maybe some buckles, buttons or hopefully a coin.
We had gone over this 50 square yard area and were headed back towards the truck when I get this low solid hit on my Deus.
I swing back and forth a few times to check it, stick my shovel in a bit and kick this white rock and a little dirt to the side.
The signal goes away... So swing over the dirt and rock and bang it's back.
I'm thinking I've never seen a white hot rock:icon_scratch:
So I reach down and pick it up, rub off some dirt and ...WOW...
There's a bunch of YELLOW stuff on the side of it!!!!

An absolutely first for me.
Always wanted to find a GOLD coin, but I think this is better and rarer.
It weighs 3/4lb!! Not all gold but there has to be a bunch in there.
Looks real nice in my finds cabinet.

I have to say I checked a lot of white rocks after that...:laughing7:

Thanks for looking

That is a great looking specimen and there is not enough on here posted.

In my book it is a banner find.

Thats a beautiful specimen! Try this testing... weigh the rock and get its volume by water displacement. Then compare that to the weight that volume of quartz would be. The difference should be the amount of gold compound in the rock!

That’s one nice gold specimen you have! They are usually more value if left intact. Congratulations!

That is a fine looking specimen. Sure looks like gold in quartz to me. Congrats.

That is a beauty for sure........Don't you just love those kind of "surprises"?!!

Thank you all for the kind words.

I will see if I can figure the GOLD content in it, but I need to get a good scale first.

Never thought I would find such a thing, I'm still floating on cloud nine...

That is a pretty large specimen. I would advise going back with a dedicated gold detector to look for small pieces.
If you were in my area, I'd volunteer to help... I suspect your 3 or 4 hours south of me.

I would suggest going back and selecting a piece of similar quartz (white rock) and use that to determine the specific gravity of the quartz.
It varies from area to area and you will have a more accurate gold content if you use a measured value.

DO NOT crush that rock. I would not use any chemicals to clean it. Just soapy water and a tooth brush.

Oh wow, you don't see that every day. I don't know much about gold prospecting but that is neat. Congrats.

That's incredible. What a beautiful display piece!

IMAUDIGGER,
Don't worry I wouldn't think of crushing it.
Worth more IF I were to sell it as a specimen.
and way rarer to find.
I will be going over that spot some more that's for sure...
The Deus hasn't been fully vetted as a gold detector with it's new high frequency coils, but I think it's a pretty good one.
This piece was on top of the ground and could have been detected with a Radio Shack detector.
Once I figure out how the specific gravity thing works and get a good scale I'll get a better idea of how much GOLD is in the quarts.
Right now I like thinking there is way more in it than the is..LOL
Thank you all for your kind comments.

You have just been infected. Welcome to the club.
It's pretty well rounded. Looks like it has traveled a bit.

No better way to locate detecting areas, than to chase the gold.
