Well I the Pleasure of metal detecting with NM Dan and gentlemen we met in old mesilla canal so we invited him to the WW1 Training camp, Jack is his name he was passing through. Nice work. A dog tag from the Mexican border has been on my bucket list for a very long time.
 

Can you make out a name or unit. If you can there is a lot more history there that you might not know already. ANd Im sure there are plenty of us here on T-net that would like to hear the back story on this piece.
 

Excellant find! I was told by more than one old-timer that there was a WWI camp outside of Denver
that several 1916-D mercs had been found.
Perfect time range, go out and dig some!

There could be. They built training camps all of the USA for both World War I and World War II. Then you have all of our regular military installations, POW camps, border camps built for fighting Mexicans, and other camps built to protect the mining camps. There are also a lot of WW1 Army camp sites here in AZ on the old ranches near the border, which were used while the soldiers were out on patrol and away from their base camp. There really is lots of World War I activity that took place within our own border.
