I found this bullet recently in the South of France, and was curious if it could be from WWII.

The bottom is a little dinged, so I can't see all the text, but I do see the numbers 26 35 and S#

Any idea what it is? (besides a bullet! ;)) The ruler is in centimeters. It's roughly 2.95 inches long.

Definitely WW2 and definitely German. I live in an area that was occupied by the Germans during the war, and it's quite common to find exactly the same cartridges as that pictured wherever they had firing ranges.

Sorry can't help out with the more technical aspects, but I'm not a firearms expert!

Thanks for the replies.

Here is what the bottom looks like... I had to recreate it in Photoshop because my camera is no good at macro closeups...

The bullet you have is a 7.92X57mm Mauser. This was the standard round of Germany in both WWI and WWII. The headstamp is a standard German one and I would say the round was made in 1935 making it of WWII vintage.
