Found in the harbor on Nantucket...I'm not sure. I saw a post on eroded points a while back but can't find it now...I'm on the fence but leaning towards nah.

It's got the shape but hard to tell by photos - how does the side view look?

You forgot the size of it. I have to say it has the rite shape for something but when they get to the stage it is in rite now you will probably be the only one to know if it is worth keeping even if it is a worn artifact. For me to say a yes or no would be impossible.

It is approximately 2" long and 3/4" wide. The thickness is right for a point but I'll have to take a few more pics when I get home. Thanks for the input...I'll probably keep it.

The last pic is better I think I actually see the water worn flaking on it. What material is it?

No idea...I should post it in the geologic forum. I bet someone there can tell me. The whole island is glacial till so it could be anything.

Harbor area...so, yes sandy, stony but not big water. On a knoll where many artifacts have come from

I'd lean towards nah .... Looks like sides were always rounded off and dull but like others said pics don't tell the whole story

Here is a page from what might be the old thread you were thinking of. Hard to say with your piece, but it looks like a metamorphic rock, which would suggest not, but I am not at all certain. It could also be a water worn piece made of one of the many rhyolites found here. I hunt beaches one state over from you, the lithics here are the same as the lithics on the islands. Here is an example of how water worn an argillite point can become....

I hate finding stuff like that, because you just don't know. With your piece though, I am going to say no. While it looks like a water worn point (of which I am an expert since it's almost all I find -- so worn that most people will tell you it's not a point,) I think that is just a rock. I don't think those scars that look like flaking is really flaking at all. The material doesn't look too good for a point either. Now with all that said, I surely could be wrong.

Charl...will you please look at the 2 hammerstones I posted and give your input since you know the area. The cobble I am 90% sure on. The other...? It has a worn down ridge that certainly appears hammerstone ish.
