I'm so pumped!!!!! I've been wanting to find one of these for a while but never thought I would. I know it's beat to hell, but it's mine!!! Muahaha. As you can see the back is flaking and I'd really like to save it as much as possible. I haven't done anything yet aside from rinse it with a little bit of water. Here's some other stuff I found today including another toasted copper.

Yeah, funny thing is, I've never found one before. Well, not a whole one. I have about 40 pieces of bells, this is my first that isn't broken.

Well done! We're not talking VillaNOVA here :laughing7:

I have never found one, despite all the King Georges and State coppers I've dug. I like your early four prong rosette and your crotal bell too. Hope you don't lose all the detail on the Nova when the patina flakes off....

Re: YES YES YES!!!! CONSTELLATIO NOVA!!!! Need preservation tips!

Hey way to go! I found my Nova back in June, 2006. Yours looks like it's in better shape than mine which is really toasted. I guess you could try the hot peroxide method to clean it.

I'm thinking about it. I just don't want to f-it up anymore than it is.

Congrats on all the great finds and welcome to the Nova Club. Mine found in 2009. :icon_thumleft:

Damn, that looks great. The soil here in MA sucks and is terrible on coppers. I'm lucky I got what I did out of mine.

If you hp it to remove the dirt brush it VERY lightly, then just set it to dry. (no water) I don't wax coins, but in this case I probably would use some Renaissance wax because it will help protect it, and usually dries back to the coin having a patina. Things like vaseline keep the item slick and make it look bad. Once the color was back a little I would then put it in a 2x2.

Thank you and I will.

The tag with the number 91 on it looks to be a cow tag to me. They hung around the cows neck with a chain with a mostly brass numbered tag like yours. Used to keep track of there cows.

Beautiful finds, nice crotal bell

Cheers
