I used a satellite to find a new swimming area to hunt. It seems that every boat launch in the area has had lots of swimming around them. When I got to the boat launch the water was up a foot more than I thought it would be but I did drive too far to not give it a try. I walked down to the edge of the water and turned the detector on and had moved a few feet and got a solid pull tab signal. I immediately thought it's going to be a long day digging 200 pull tabs. I scratched the silt and gravel back and out rolled a nice 14K wedding band. Dang, that's 6 gold rings in about that many trips. That's the best I have ever done in any year. Well, that isn't the part I thought you might not believe..... I got back to the boat ramp ready to go home and saw a beer bottle in a tire track right on the boat ramp. I had my cap pulled down low and I had been looking at the ground the whole time until I picked up the beer bottle to throw it up into the weeds. When I raised up to throw the bottle I saw a full grown deer (a doe) was standing less than 10 feet in front of me. Well, I couldn't believe it either. What's stranger is that it walked right up to me and I held my hand out and it smelled of it and let me pet it's nose. Got to be somebody's pet.... I found a Styrofoam cup and poured some Mountain Dew in it and it smelled of it but seemed not to want any of it, lol... I took a bunch of pics with my cell phone but they aren't the best. Everyone have a good one!

Thanks for all of the great replies. I wonder if that deer was taken with the metal detector??? It smelled of it when it walked up to me. It checked me out good and then it turned it's back on me and put it's head down and started eating. It wasn't the least bit scared of me. That is something I will never forget for sure.

Nice ring DL. Maybe Bambi is engaged.

What did it say inside the ring?

SKD

It has initials inside it and says with love. It would be nice to return it but it has been there a long time and no telling how many thousand people have been there since then. I have returned around a dozen pieces of jewelry over the years but this one would be near impossible to return. It sure is a great feeling to return something and just to see the look on their face. I guess there's only been 2 times that I didn't even get a thank you for returning something. Once, I found a mans sterling bracelet from WWII and finally found his wife. He had died a couple of years before and his wife didn't remember giving it to him. I think her mind was about gone though. Her daughter was there and treated me like a thief, asking where I got it and all kinds of questions. She was very skeptical of my story. I finally said, HEY NOW, I am not asking for a reward. Do you want that or not? She finally nodded her head and I turned around and left.

You sure are the ring magnet lately!
Congrats!
(but enough, already; i'm getting jealous) :)
The critters know who the good people are!

Great Story.....you found one treasure, and a treasure found you!!! :icon_king:
My wife (a Korean) and I were living in Georgia. We lived out from Columbus about 40 miles, in the country. She has one of her friends over, they are talking and around the corner of the house.....comes a deer. Walks up to my wife, and asks (in a deer's way) for some petting and some food.
So, my wife petted the deer, and then went in to get the deer some of our best food. Guess what. It didn't like steak. Can't understand.
I always ate my wife's steak and enjoyed it. :tongue3:
Well, enjoy the unexpected. Here in Korea I had cleared an area way up on a mt, and had two wild oriental deer run by me, of course no camera. They almost booted my metal detector into the next world. But, missed it and me. So beautiful, though......and unexpected.
You'll remember this outing the rest of your life......and be able to enjoy it over and over.
Now, get back to that place, find a couple of rings and things, and maybe, if you are lucky, the doe might bring her kids or her boyfriend with her next trip.

I have had a few deer walk up on me or me on them, LOL, while detecting, we both freaked out and they ran off. Nice ring and HH, Mike

Nice ring. I have had young deers come up to within 10' or so of me, but never that close.
Just another benefit of the hobby.

Ok Dr. Doolittle...if you come home after having been mauled by a nice little deer...I get to keep your best finds as payment for medical services rendered...LOL :violent1:

That's what I call a really tame deer, I think you're probably right on the fact that it's probably someones pet. A woods that I hunt quite often has ton's of tame acting deer in it (people walk there dogs there a lot) and I think the deer aren't worried about people there like the dogs that will run them to death. There's been more than one time I've seen a deer right on a deers tail there. It's a good thing it's a preserve or there would be many dead dogs in that woods cause most deer hunters around here will shoot a dog running a deer, it's legal too here in Michigan.

Had 'em with antlers over my shoulder while digging. Seems in these places where we don't hunt them anymore, they hunt us. Take a few carrots or an apple along when I know I'm going to those urban woodsites where they walk up on you.

Wifey and me were walkng the woods last summer when two coyotes walked across our path about 25 feet in front of us w/o looking twice. They walked about 25 more feet into the grass then turned and started getting wind of us. Seems they were only interested in what we smelled like. Yeah, them guys are getting too "friendly" also. Missing small dogs and cats are learning that one the hard way!

You've got initials on that ring! Maybe someone around there would have a record of a lost ring matching that one! Great find and good luck!
