Got off work Friday and me and the Miss's and Littleman headed further into the mountain's for a camping trip....weather was unbelievable!!Started out hunting the pavillion's and beache's but ended up behind this old church that had a pine plantaion on the outskirt's.Must've had an old house there before the Park's got ahold of it....Kinda scoped the place out and saw a lone apple tree, part of the State Park now...Started swinging and about 1/2 hour into the hunt came up with this....Oldest silver to date...1935' quarter...not much but I'm getting closer.Pine's can tear up some silver >:( Had a great weekend regardless...HH!!

its better looking the old quarter i dont have ;D nice finds and great pics congrats ;)

No silver quarter is ugly to me. I'll give it a home for sure. Way to go!

I have never found a silver one that ugly. kinda hope i do now.

Hey civilman:

All of the old silver I find up here is at least as ugly as your coin. Must have the same type of soil conditions. The soil up here eats up the copper too.
I haven't found a way to clean them to make them look natural. I usually go to the toothpaste first, then I use the system I got from a place that sells silver (metal tray in some sort of solution) and then if that doesn't work, I go to the silver dip. The result is a very shiny unnatural looking coin that shines like silver jewellery. Most of them have a pitted look to them when I am finished. This year I found a 1910 silver quarter with at least a millimeter of crud attached to it. A week in olive oil did nothing at all. I used the above methods to get it clean but it still doesn't look right. I will post the pics of it later on.
Got to be a better way. All suggestions appreciated.
Just to let you know that when some of the detectorists talk about the shine of a silver coin in the hole, they have to be in much kinder soil. I have never had that experience even though I have found quite a few silver coins. The silver jewellery I found comes up just as bad if it has been in the ground for a few years.

Keep digging.

Foiled Again.

Looks like you all had a good time camping. That 's' Hat hook shaped thing is neat. Glad you were able to get away for the weekend and take the family.

That's a good bunch of items. I like the old doorknobs, they weighed about 10 of the modern kind. Is the long curvy item a landau bar from a buggy?

Campin' and huntin', cool!
That quarter is not bad for 72 years old.....

Keep safe...

Ugly but still a good find. ;D My son and I always debate about what looks better - the dirty, stained, tarnished, authentic looks or the clean, polished, new look. Sometimes I leave them uncleaned. If they are bad like yours I usually clean them even if it looks unnatural.
