Metal Detecting
I just started metal detecting this year, and although I rarely find much worthy of posting, I enjoy every minute out there. I was in shallow water off my local beach this week end and dug up a plastic zipper bag full of mud and other goodies. I got excited when I started pulling out large coins, then rings, chains, and assorted bling. the only thing I identified on the beach was one of the quarters as silver, and the larger coins had the look of gold to me. I kept detecting for few more sinkers and clad, even though I couldn't wait to get home to see if I found anything really good.
Oh well, the large coins were just susan b's and a clad Kennedy half, and I think the rest is just costume jewelry. I did manage three silver quarters, a mercury dime, and four other silver dimes. I'm just wondering how a zipperlock bag filled with this assortment ended up buried 50 yards off shore. IMG_0586.webp

Nice find . That's the way to detect ,finding a whole bag of goodies in one shot. They get put in a container for safe keeping and then the container is ether forgotten when packing up or dropped. Congratulations:occasion14:

I would not assume that all the jewelry is costume, that crucifix looks silver and that chain on the bottom has an ID tag.

Yes take a careful look on any clip or shafts youd be amazed how tiny there marked. You got a good technique to be finding those chains.... they are the tuff ones. Good going.

Maybe there is some things of worth in there, but like you said, enjoy every minute it of. That's the true treasure.

Looks like you may have found another detectorists finds. Ironic how this hobby works.
Nice find.

CTBob, Congrats on finding that bag of treasures! Good for you! :headbang:

Those are very interesting finds in that bag; looks like some of the jewelry is silver; check very carefully for tiny markings anywhere on the jewelry.

That looks like about a year's detecting finds for me :laughing7:

Nice find.

That is what I was wondering i.e. that it might be some one else's finds bag. :laughing7: Although I seems to have a bit much stuff to only represent a single hunt. Who knows?! But nice job finding it!

Plastic Cache???

Thanks everyone for your encouragement and advise.
I've started cleaning, and see markings on the small cross, but can't yet identify it. I need to get a jewelers loop, or magnifying glass. A couple of the chains are tagged lin sophia which a quick search showed sells alot of inexpensive jewelry. Well a nice negative low tide is less then 2 hours away, and when clothes come out of the drier I 'll be out there hunting. I enjoy detecting so much more than cleaning.

Lorraine,I always enjoy your pictures you post!!!!

For a new member thats an awesome find,,plastic cache of goodies!

It could have been a dump. We find stolen goods buried on the beaches. Most of the time the tags are still in place from the store the good were taken from. Yours could have come from a home robery and they through it on the beach when chased?

Hi ctbob,

Just a thought, I've been known to throw various pieces of jewelry into a plastic ziplock when rushing out the door to catch a plane...This certainly isn't the type jewelry one would wear to a beach and take it off for swimming..etc Maybe came off a passing cruise ship or something like that...Just a stretch of imagination...:)
