I was wondering if you guys and gals conceal carry (with a permit of course) while you are detecting? I am planning on hunting some wooded areas where bears are common, and I was thinking of carrying while going there for my safety. There are a plethora of other reasons to carry but I just wanted to see what the general consensus was and why? Thanks in advance.

Of course when in the gold fields YES in a park.....NO

nine mil works great...

Just because someone didnt finish highschool or even go to college doesnt mean they are dumb. As well you have to go through a class and show your knowledge and skills with a gun.

Of course I do not want my young son to go second, in fact I don't want to go at all. I am not a believer in either the end of the world, or a massive government melt down...at least in my lifetime....I am just saying if it's the end of the world....IT IS THE END....why hold out in a bunker for months only to find out it's really the end...sign me up to be the first to go.

If someone wants to prep for that, arm up and wait for something bad to happen, then good for them...I choose to live differently.

I live approximately 1 month out of each year outside the US and have been to many places that most people would think as dangerous....if you are smart, and are aware of your surroundings you can stay out of trouble most the time. Have I been in situations where a knife has been poking at my back....yes, actually twice, but in those situations a gun would have done me no good, or would have made the situation worse.

I often think it is more dangerous in the US with so many packing heat.
Just because you have a gun doesn't mean you have to pull it. It's nice to have that option though. If you were properly trained, you might find those knife situations you were in would have been less traumatic and you might have been able to prevent that knife wielder from victimizing someone else. Personally, I could sleep fine knowing I killed a bad guy and would have a hard time sleeping if I let one victimize me, my family, or someone else when I had the means to prevent it. If you choose not to carry, that's fine. I just feel for those you should be protecting, I hope you don't walk around the wrong corner with talk being your only option.

i carry because "I CAN AND I'M LICENSED" to do so.

And for the fact that i have had 3 spine surgeries and i am unable to fight off an aggressor. god forbid i ever NEED to use it, it would kill me inside.
Other than that i dont need it.

Groovin - glad you can still detect with your back in bad shape. Keep on digging!

Be safe!

I tried several times to apologized, sorry!

If you need to kick me out, I understand.

My intention was not to rile up the troops.

I like you nun with the ruler pic.

Happy Metal Detecting! May the Nectar Gods be with you all!

Forums wouldn't be near as entertaining without differences of opinion.

I normally open carry, but if I'm not doing that I'm concealing. (unless I'm in an area where it is prohibited)

I just wear a giant knife. Legal as long as it's visible.

Jeremy - thanks, I agree it is good to hear all points of view, and it is sometimes entertaining.

Hopefully I can get better at stating my opinion without offending others.

Good to hear different view points, Bad to be demeaning...

I dont need a gun, lol. If you ever see me you will understand why. First of all, I would have to figure out just what type of gun I would carry. Then I have to figure out what ammo to put in it. Then I would want a back up and have to do the same process. In the process of remembering to check for my gun before I leave a site, I would loose my eye glasses lol. Then I would be setting off my detector as I usually dont detect flat ground. I would set on it or get the seat belt stuck in it when getting in and out of the truck. Then by the time I took to pull it, take off the safety, aim, and squeeze the trigger I could have just walked away. I have had the two legged varmits get nosey before and if they can out climb me they can have me. No one has has had me yet. Snakes, bears, mountain lions, well seen plenty. Short of stepping on a snake, never in 35 years been bothered. As the temps near 100+ degrees here in the summer, the weapon would get very hot and add to my misery. Even the added weight of 2 pounds makes a difference when climbing vertical surfaces, which I climb as high as I can to get at the good stuff. I didnt buy a light detector so I can add a gun to my weight. If it dont dig, detect, or hold samples it better be Jerky or water. I would consider one in the truck just in case as you do have some nutty people out there. but I really really would never feel right about shooting a person. I have seen what the business end of a gun does, and its a sight I wish I didnt have to live with. A cop may be too heavy to carry, but my Cell Phone isnt, and its best to just get the info to the police or ranger and let them handle it. It also goes back to being aware of your surroundings. I never did understand shooting anything you didnt plan to eat. Hamburger is $2.00 bucks a pound so its too much work and expense, to buy the license, permits, tags, and then pay for the camping trip just to eat wild meat. I can think of a lot of folks who dont carry guns. I personally donmt believe they should be allowed in the city limits, or public areas. I am more afraid of a concealed carry guy having a sugar fit and shooting me than a snake biting me in the desert. Second amendment has nothing to do with it. I say carry six or seven guns if it makes you happy, dont shoot yourself in the foot.

Degree degree degree wtf quit talking about how smart you think people are. Your attitude is what people don't like, man. And I know I didn't like what you said about packing guns, or the whole American sub high school education crap. Please tell me your source of such accurate information I'm still waiting on that. And if your so scared of a patriotic law abiding citizen who would more than likely risk his life to save yours, then your in the wrong hobby. Go take an art class and protest for social healthcare and socialism in general. I'm no longer worried about offending you because you just do not get it. Your apologies mean nothing if you're still judging people dude. Have a little insight as to what you're actually saying. Good grief.

Got it fly man...you do not like me....cool! Happy Metal detecting!
