Me and my big mouth got me the permission to hunt the house and me and my big mouth is causing me to loose some good finds.

Recon at it's best.....

Saw this beauty and went up and rang the bell.

Women answers the door. Introduced myself and explained what I wanted to do.

Reluctant at first but I said she can see all the finds and pick some and I will put them in a small display for her.

She said ok..

She sure did pick the good finds.

Losing half the good finds. ( Told her I'm keeping the 1892-O  since it is now my oldest dime. She agreed on that.

OH WELL !!!!

Got a bunch of Wheat's (10 ) other junk too..

Thought I'd show the best stuff.

No time like the present time to ask permission.

What can one say....NO or YES  In this case... YES but I messed up!!!!!

Lost a  silver rosie but I know where I dropped it so I have to head back to get it soon.

I also want to get some other " relic's " or  " junk " for the display....

Made the display today for the owner below. I think she will like it.. It took a little time but I gotter done.

you need a show pocket and a "no show" pocket...........I have been burned before from home owners and learned this lesson. 2 people this year told me I could keep everything I find, but they wanted to see it, well I took their word and showed them my finds when I was done. After they saw coins from the 1800's they immeadiately changed their tune and wanted me to give them to them. What choice did I have?

I learned my lesson after that..........

50 / 50 or halves is a fair split ( any jewelry or personal type items that the land owner 100 % would "want" items that are "family goods"--say like granny's ring need to be declared in advance)-- half is fair since its their land / your sweat and gear -- with right of first pick on items like coins to owner --he takes first you take second --and so on back and forth -- for single items of great value (say a single gold bar )-- 50 / 50 split with right of buy out to the owner first --then to you --if neither side wants to "cash" buy out the other -- the item is to be sold and the $$$ evenly split. these are fair terms . --if thats not good nuff --- I say let em pay money for gear and dig it themselves. have a nice day .

Place was probably loaded,but you may have the best that was there.Lesson learned for the future,I tend to keep my yap shut as this already happen to me before

Wow Bob! When I called you and you said you were having a great day, you weren't kidding!!! A deal is a deal, and I'm glad you stuck to your end of the bargain, even though it cost you. I remember Bryce had something like this happen early this year where he promised the homeowner the first silver - and it was a great one, too. Hey, you pay up and smile because you had fun on the hunt, and walk away knowing you did the right thing!

Congrats on the great finds, and on picking the right house, buddy!

Silly, that's why I carry two pouches. There's the owners pouch, and there's the junk pouch. Last but not least there's the my pocket.

Bob, SUPER hunt

Obviously, what you say to the owner before the hunt can be
a double-edged sword. . . but hey, at least you got the green light
to hunt plus, some wonderful finds that you can keep

I have had that happen as well. Just remember though if you hadn't gotten to hunt the place you would have NOTHING to show for it...

One thing I have done in the past as well is to go and buy replacement coins for the ones I found and give those to the homeowner. I have only done that twice and they weren't really special or expensive coins, I just wanted to keep the ones I have dug.

I have never had to give up a piece of silver I actually dug because I replaced the two that I did give up and I have only given away ONE silver coin that I have dug voluntarily. I really wanted the home owner to have it although they did not ask for it.

It stinks but again at least you got to hunt the place.
