Well, it looks like a very interesting piece. Not my area though. I suggest you post it here: North American Indian Artifacts

The guys in the Indian artifact forum should be able to tell you a bit. There are some pretty sharp artifact hunters and collectors there.

Definitely man made I would guess figuring out who did it seems like it would be very difficult!!!!!!!

look up "indian thunderbird effigy" or something like that on ebay or the internet...those things have been made for years and sold in tourist shops or salted around beaches and "indian" sites. they are 100 % indisputably NOT historic or authentic.

I've seen one found and know it was authentic but that is the only one I know of that is authentic. I'm sure there are a lot that are but most are fakes...d2
