Today I happened to meet up with Zoso in the TN chat room and after chatting a while we decided to meet and hunt for a few hours at his spot he has named the "Silver Mine" (mighty gracious of you Zoso...it WILL be reciprocated)
We didn't get started until almost 1pm, so we knew it would be a short day. Before I got my bearings and really decided a strategy, Zoso had dug a silver Washington and was hot on the trail of more silver. I kinda zigged and zagged, and decided to hunt through an edge of heavy brush into an older wooded area and right away hit two wheaties. Pouring a cup of coffee from my thermos, I swung with one arm drinking with the other and hit a nice dime target. From 3 inches or so popped out a 37 Merc. I finished the cup of coffee and started wandering around the woods like Nate would, trying to let the mojo take over...NADA....I headed back to where I set my backpack down, right next to the hole the Merc came from and got a nice signal not even 3 feet away. ACE said half....Dan said nah....changed sweep direction. ACE said half...Dan said nah....well...maybe...one way to find out, let's dig!!

Pinpointer said I was close, so I wiped away some dirt and saw that SWEET silver reeded edge..

Pulled gently to reveal a beautiful 1941 Walker (my third Walker since starting last Feb.)

Ended the afternoon with a couple silver Rosies as well as a few more wheats!
Cool finds were the gun-shaped lighter and the conche shell (just laying there in the woods)

As darkness fell, Zoso's DFX and my ACE BOTH said "dollar" coin deep on a target I found...I dug and dug, rechecking all the time...he and I BOTH continued to confirm it was a dollar on both machines...at 10" a pulltab popped out from under a rock!...wouldn't have beleived it if I hadn't seen it! I had to remove two pulltabs from next to the hole, thinking they were screwing with the pinpoint...wild hole to end a great afternoon with.

That's great you two...Another TN hookup where evryone goes home happy!Congrat's...

those walkers are beautiful coins aren't they?

Awesome coins..One of my Fav's..The detail on them are outstanding..

That was the 3rd Walker to come from the Silver Mine this year..
last year it was only one.

I was pretty excited when Dan dug it up.. That place keeps giving it up.

Hey Zoso, that ain't no rock...but I don't know what it is. Can you get somebody to photograph it for you, up close and personal, and then repost it?

I will re-take the picture of the rock on both sides tonight..

Great Finds Danimal,Trust your gut not the I.D. those things can only tell you that a target has a similar signature to something else but can't tell you for sure what the target ACTUALLY is and if you rely on such things your gonna miss alot of goodies. Congrats, Bootstrap

Dan & Zoso, Thanks for the great post and pictures. You guys did good. Dan, really love the pictures of the Walking Half. I need to start taking my camera with me, but I usually don't take anymore weight with me than I have to.

I know what you mean Dan about how deep the ACE will go. Most guys think I'm nuts when I say it will go deep. I have dug and my partner also with our ACE 250's, coins at over 9 and 10 inches. People say how can you dig a pull tab so deep in the ground. Well I guess they are just old pull tabs. I dug a tin pan up the other day and it turned out to be one of the first TV Dinner pans.

Well keep those great pictures and great finds coming you two. Thanks for the post.

HH, Ringfinder

Ringfinder...the pulltab was a newer kind. We figured someone must have dug up that area for some reason in the more recent past. No WAY it ended up there through natural means.
I have been surprised at the depth the ACE250 goes, especially in all-metal pinpoint. On another forum, an ACE250 owner modded his to include a pinpoint TRIGGER that has two positions. Pull back for momentary pinpoint, push forward and it LOCKS into pinpoint. Now THAT is something I am interested in, as I hunt mostly in pinpoint anyways. He is thinking of offering the mod as a kit to the public....SIGN ME UP!!

Not to worry Bootstrap...I was only saying that, as each half I have dug this year (five so far) I have not believed the TID. It has rang up as half MANY times to turn out being a pipe fitting, Morgan washer (inside joke) or lg. pc. of canslaw. When I dug my Morgan dollar recently, I was actually SHOCKED when it really WAS a dollar coin!...I fully expected it to be debris of some sort.
I think 5 half dollar coins and a silver dollar in my first year detecting proves I trust my gut when deciding to cut a plug. ;D

That "rock" almost looks like a celtic coin or pendant???
Sweet digs Dan!! Congrats and keep em coming!

Smiles!

Danimal,

Sweet finds again, man! I just love that Walker. Walkers and IH's are two of my absolute favorites...can you imagine how cool a whole pile of them would look?

Seeing your continued success boosts my confidence in the Ace, not to mention the fact that ZoSo's DFX got the same reading on the ancient pulltab at 10". Those suckers sometimes give the purtiest darn signals and consistently fool me. Looks like its a universal problem, even with the higher end machines.

Keep posting those great finds, and a big ole congratulations on the well-deserved Best of TNet for the Iceburg finds.

Great digs for you guys! That "rock" looks like it has an oriental symbol of sorts on it to me. I may be seeing things but... well I AM SEEING SOMETHING! LOL. ???

Thanks for the kudos MP...the ACE is a great little machine...just learn to listen to changes in the threshold tone in pinpoint very carefully. Don't always rely on a "locked-on" belltone in both swing directions. If you are doing that, you're missing some nice coins!

Here are some closeups of "The Rock"

Maybe the rock is some fragment from a meteorite. Just a guess. I enjoyed reading this post and and the replies. I'm contemplating a second detector (I use a White's Classic II now) and was seriously looking into the Ace 250. Reading about it here is making me think alittle bit more. Good job fellas.

Great close-ups of "the rock." I agree that it could be a meteorite, or a piece of native iron ore that had been partially smelted or maybe a melt down of something else. Was there ever a large fire or furnace at this location? This item seems to have been heated up at some point in time, which leads to my GUESSES--I'm certainly not an expert.

Wow ya'll! 8) Those are some really GREAT finds!!!! Looks like an awesome day!

Congrats! Nana :)

Thanks Guys..

I was hoping for a longer hunt. But it gets dark way too fast now.

Maybe the rock is some fragment from a meteorite

I was thinking the same thing? ;D. Most of the Meteorites I have seen have been solid. This seemed to have a void before it broke. ???

Native activity was present in the area many lifetimes ago. I'm gonna keep that in mind.

As far as fires? It was very possible for fire to be present in the area. I remember throwing rocks into a fire as a kid and they would explode after a bit. But this thing took alot of heat for a very long time. And boiled the insides.

I'll keep you posted as I find out more.
