I still can't believe it. It just doesn't seem real.

Anyway, two weeks ago I pulled out a beautiful Spanish one reale / half pistareen from 1758. Awesome find. My favorite coin ever!

Today... today I grab my buddy Mike. The same buddy who came with me last time. The same buddy who found NOTHING last time, and who, on the way home declared that the site was "maybe hunted out".

"Come on man," I tell him. "Come with me again. I know it's a long ride, but there's good stuff there."

Mike came with me again... and about an hour into hunting he starts screaming. I mean screaming loud. Like either he found something good or we're going to the emergency room because he's having a heart attack kind of loud. Keep in mind this was HIS find, so please, no need to banner or anything (I'd like to earn a banner on my own merits!) But he's not on this forum and I'm so excited I just had to share it!

Mike handed me this thing, and absolute bedlam ensued. It's beautiful. Beyond beautiful. There's not a scratch or a speck on it. 130 years of dirt slid right off the surface like the coin was dipped in baby oil. He didn't nick it, or scratch it, or anything. Hell, it even has an S mintmark.

Anyway, I'm still looking for my first gold coin... but it was really something to be there when my buddy found his! I'll never forget it. I'm pretty sure he won't either. :laughing7:

As you can see this thing was DEEP. Everything at that farm is. If you look at the 2nd photo, he was digging that weird-looking iron plug you see there at the bottom. No clue what it was, but the gold coin was an inch or two under it. Just goes to show you have to dig everything!

Oh yeah, and I found an old button and my first hem weight. :hello2: Exciting, I know.

Alright, just had to share. Incredible to think this stuff is still out there!
Good luck all -

EDIT: Here are two more pics he sent over. I can't get past how perfect this coin came out of the ground:

Yeap, thats why you clear iron. Had a similar event with a gold coin & a horse shoe.

Congrats to your mate for clever digging.

Beautiful! Too bad your friend did not post it himself, because he clearly deserves a banner! :)
I think you should go back!

Now that’s the way to do it...just beautiful gold coin!

Beautiful gold coin, congratulations to your hunting partner! :occasion14:

Get that friend on this forum and let him brag about it......That is what friends are for introducing each other to new sites.......:occasion14:

Super find, yeah when your finding the caliber of coins that you previously posted, you hunt that site until the ground is silent

Congrats to you and your friend on such a great site and your incredible finds!!

Cal

Do you know what it rang up as on the mxt.

I believe he said 12, but I'll have to ask him. This was after he had the coin though. He was actually digging an iron signal (that big plug) and the coin was under it.

I think your buddy owes you dinner for persuading him to hunt that site. That's a coin that dreams are made of. Kudos to your buddy.

What a beautiful gold coin, congratulations to your buddy.
It just proves digging iron pays off once in a while.

Nice gold coin, many more to come especially when you are hunting in those old locations. Very nice to see and Congrats and good luck on your next finds.

HH.

Wow! It sure doesn't seem real! I hope to find my first gold coin soon too. HH 8-)

Congratulations. That's what this hobby is all about. Glad to see some of the hobbyists "living the dream".

Awesome find!

Wow. Incredible....congrats to your buddy. Somebody help me here....is it a $20 piece? I can't see the back.

great story Shakakka, hey I'm in possession of a time machine, how would you like to start this day over again and go out there by yourself ? lol Do you think this was a homestead of somewhat wealthy people, am in an area here in western Pa. where I suspect the people were quite poor and think the odds of finding a gold coin would be quite low, do you think that's a correct assumption ?

That is absolutely amazing! Congrats!
