I still can't believe it. It just doesn't seem real.
Anyway, two weeks ago I pulled out a beautiful Spanish one reale / half pistareen from 1758. Awesome find. My favorite coin ever!
Today... today I grab my buddy Mike. The same buddy who came with me last time. The same buddy who found NOTHING last time, and who, on the way home declared that the site was "maybe hunted out".
"Come on man," I tell him. "Come with me again. I know it's a long ride, but there's good stuff there."
Mike came with me again... and about an hour into hunting he starts screaming. I mean screaming loud. Like either he found something good or we're going to the emergency room because he's having a heart attack kind of loud. Keep in mind this was HIS find, so please, no need to banner or anything (I'd like to earn a banner on my own merits!) But he's not on this forum and I'm so excited I just had to share it!

Mike handed me this thing, and absolute bedlam ensued. It's beautiful. Beyond beautiful. There's not a scratch or a speck on it. 130 years of dirt slid right off the surface like the coin was dipped in baby oil. He didn't nick it, or scratch it, or anything. Hell, it even has an S mintmark.
Anyway, I'm still looking for my first gold coin... but it was really something to be there when my buddy found his! I'll never forget it. I'm pretty sure he won't either.
As you can see this thing was DEEP. Everything at that farm is. If you look at the 2nd photo, he was digging that weird-looking iron plug you see there at the bottom. No clue what it was, but the gold coin was an inch or two under it. Just goes to show you have to dig everything!
Oh yeah, and I found an old button and my first hem weight.
Exciting, I know.
Alright, just had to share. Incredible to think this stuff is still out there!
Good luck all -
EDIT: Here are two more pics he sent over. I can't get past how perfect this coin came out of the ground:
