If you do choose to wear it, and I don't recommend one that nice, do not let it touch sweaty skin. The oils in your skin can effect the coin. Folks down my way commonly wear 8 reale cobs of the Atocha from the Mel Fisher collection. The value makes it dumb anyway. I'm waiting for my friend who has a Whydah from one of Blackbeard's ships to make a die from it.....will make authentic silver repros from it. That would be a nice necklace piece for sure. Anyhow, awesome find, welcome to the Spanish silver club!

The cob I just got back from the jewler. He did a great job mounting it for me in silver complete with engraving and garnets. !!! So yes I cleaned it and yes I have it on now. photo-9.JPG

Not so sure that I could live with my self if I were to mount, ware, and then lose that pillar dollar. !! Some of the old timers here in the keys have told me it is quite valuable and should be put away for safe keeping. I like finding treasure not losing it. So I picked an undated poorly struck cob to ware as my luck charm.

OH MY !!!!!!!!!!! That is a beauty! Dream find, congrats and welcome to T-Net.

man thats a nice coin best ive seen ! welcome

Gorgeous coins you got there, and the cob is mounted beautifully, congrats.

There is nothing to say except.. :notworthy::skullflag:

That looks great so glad you joined to share with everyone. You did a really good job in cleaning it. You also need to share in the beach and shallow water area or our Cobs area.

Mel fisher would be jelous Great find

It ain fake I dug it. It came from a land site directly in front of one of the only wreck sites to ever have produced them. photo-8.JPG this is it 5 minutes after being dug. 1732 and 1733 all went to the bottom when the 1733 fleet sunk in a hurricane in the keys. This one came from a salvage and survivors camp now located on private property on lower matecumbie key. A 5 millon dollar home now sits on the site. I work for the owners as there fishing guide. Treasure and other salvaged goods were brought here from at least 4 of the galleon wrecks. These include the almiranta, the san pedro, the sanfransisco, and the el lerri. I do understand your concerns as it is one of the most conterfitted coins on the market today.several experts have looked at it and agree that it is the real deal. All agree that the condition is incredible. All attribute this to the fact that it was buried at the highest of tide lines. Sedgewick coins will be grading and certifing it for me this summer. I will post many more artifacts from this site in the future.

That other coin is a cob piece of eight dug from the same hole. I now ware that one around my neck.

That is so cool Mel fisher stole my dream cant even imagine finding a Galleon or even something like your find. I'm happy you found it Keep postin Love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
