It was nice to have a three coin morning, been quite some time since getting 3 old ones in one hunt, so regardless of the condition, I was happy.

The 1738 KGII has a great deal amount of active corrosion, which surprised me, since coming out of the ground it looked rather good, but it just goes to show how dirt can hide some nasty corrosion, this is the nasty blue green crap, that I am not used to seeing on British Coppers in my area. The 1748 One Real is not too bad, but yes, I had to go ahead and ding it, oh well, still looks good in the collection. That was my 22nd Spanish Silver, and the 6th One Real, so that brought a smile since it has been over a year and half since I last found any Spanish Silver while my son is finding them at a good clip. :)

Then there is the Half Cent, the coin popped out of the ground looking great, not dirt clinging to it but then I noticed almost 100% of the Obverse side was not there, and only about 50% of the Reverse side. I do not know if the coin was a planchet error or if it was mutilated, but something serious happened to it and it is my worst Half Cent I ever have found (#17).
I did determine that it is a Draped Bust Half Cent with the 2nd Reverse, meaning then it is a 1802-1808 coin, and I do not think I will ever see a date on it, so it will be just that...... The coin is also 1 mm larger in diameter than it should be and uneven in thickness on the edge....

The large button is a biggie, 33.5mm, which is about as big as those late 1700 buttons went. That was my first find of the day, the T shape object, no idea. The pewter piece looks like part of a bell or small pot, not sure.

The site was long ago abandoned and at 8-12 inches I was digging up pieces of very old crumbling brick and clam shells. Only the Half Cent was not deep the rest were a good 6-9 inches down.

Don

ADDED: I spent sometime this morning looking at the mutilated Half Cent and put it side by side with the 1805 I found yesterday, I could see the hair bun or whatever you want to call it in the recessed area of the coin and also noticed the round punch marks around the perimeter? But, I am fairly certain I can now call it an 1807, since where the date should be, a 7 is in the right location, at least looks like a 7 to me. :)

...btw...that GeoII would be considered to be in great shape in my neck of the woods. Anything where the dats is visible is a great find!

Don, you are on more of a coin roll than a relic roll for this year.

If anyone can go into a wooded area and pick up iron hits from a Colonial dwelling, it is definitely going to be you.

Those coppas are giving me the extreme fever. I am definitely due for one of those "greenies."

Keep the fever high, Don!
