Hey everyone,

I got an invite from some fellow enthusiasts to detect a nice spot on the coast dating back to the 1630's which I of course jumped all over . I basically found

everything in and around a small, dense pine grove. My 1st good target was the button...I've never seen a button like this, it has a dome with a rim at the base with ornate

design all over(sorry doesn't show in pic) If I had to compare the shape to something I'd say a Drill Sergeant's hat would suffice. Next, I got a deep clad quarter signal. I

flipped a plug, rescanned and she started really singing :) A couple more bites and about 8 inches down I scored my 1st 2 Reale!! I was quite motivated at this point and

made it a goal to get on the copper board as well. I made it a point to search hard to reach areas and in a patch of thorns which were unforgiving, I got a nice familiar high

tone and scored a sweet 1838 LC. Thanks for looking everyone and HH!!

Beautiful Large Cent and terrific 2 Reale, congrats on your first one, can see the smile on your face now when you saw that one. I am sure I have found a button like that, will look later for it and check the books, but most likely late 18th into early 19th century. Maybe 'helmet' type would be a good way to call it. Very similar to what is called a conical button of the time period mentioned. The shank also gives its that time frame, not earlier.

Thats an all around good hunt....nice silver...never seen a button like that though.

Man don't we all like those high tones and melodies.

Sometimes when i get a real sweet signal at a sweet old spot.

I like to light up a Marlboro light and just play with it a little bit before I dig it.

That LC has nice patina.

The C III is sweet.

yep that's a cool button and the coins are right alongside it in the cool dept! :headbang:
