I am a returning member...had to leave for a while , but am happy to be able to return now.

Thank you , OldeBeechnut,

I don't think I'll reach 30...it's getting really cold out there these days. :(

Welcome to TNet, again. I've been watching your posts on another forum and you always find great stuff. Nice old coin!

Well, welcome back then and kudos on getting your oldest dated coin (40 plus varieties for the year 1786 and over 240+ varieities if that last digit 6 happens to be a 7, after blowing up the photos, I am not sure now.)

Don

Welcome Lorraine

If I could find a coin in that date age It would surely make my day. Earliest coin for me so far has been an 1858 Cdn Penny.

Copy or no it's still a nice find that would get my heart thumping!

Congrats Lorraine!

Ralph (from Toronto, Ont. Canada - where it's really cold right now!!)

Thank you, Don; I'm quite sure the last digit is a "6".

I am not sure of the variety, but am attaching a link to a photo of what my coin find resembles.

By golly you are correct, if there is a liberty cap on the top of the shaft, (looks like there is to me in the photo, but sure you can see better in person),that would be diagnostic for the O.1 reverse and the Obverse sure looks good enough match from what I see, so I think logging your coin as a 1786 M.05-O.1 would be correct.

Here's a closer shot of the top of the shaft.

No doubt about it, here is a comparison side by side of the coinfacts photo with yours.

Nice getting a positive ID.
