Long live the president! 1789 George Washington inaugural button.
It was rough swinging with the overgrowth, but it sure paid off. Now I've got no choice but to go back and dive right into that brush. :laughing7:
The button variety appears to be a WI 11B from Albert's button book.

Congrats on the GW button. Nice crisp details too. Very well done!

Well done. That's an amazing find. Can't believe how many of these GW buttons are popping up lately!

This is a terrific historical relic - congrats to you for recovering it! :occasion14:

Sweet find. Seems lately these are easier to find than a capped bust or even seated silver

amazing find and I too think that they are being found like crazy....gives me hope here in Ark

Nice find. They seem to be growing in the bushes these days!

Bucket list for me--Awesome find :occasion14::notworthy:

Well done buddy. You’ve been knocking out some great finds lately. Keep em coming

Congratualtions on the killer find! :occasion14:

Congrats on a great button that everyone would love to dig!

Wow, what a great find. Beautiful!

Agree, makes it harder and harder for them to make banner. Are they really that rare? I've been led to believe so

Yes, they're still very rare. There are currently only 8 GW inaugural buttons for sale on Ebay. By comparison, there are 851 capped bust half dimes for sale on eBay right now. If you base it on eBay lisitings only, that makes them 106 times rarer than a capped bust half dime...

There may not have been tons of those buttons or any particular button for that matter produced but they would have been more likely lost or discarded compared to more valuable items of the time period. Thus why we find lots of buttons at early sites and far fewer gold/silver items. The valuable stuff mostly survived, the buttons ended up in the ground thus why the colonial gold and silver relics are the best finds imo. Maybe not the most valuable but the best finds
