Half cent found in a field at one of my colonial sites yesterday, Also found a 1788 Connecticut copper. This is a very low mintage coin with only 81,600 minted, The 1916 D merc mintage is 264,000 Thanks for looking HH

I agree.I have seen braided,and indian pennies come out the ground in a whole lot worse shape.Glad it wasn't the case with that coin!Nice recovery,One hell of a find!!
 
And I felt lucky when I broke the 1800 barrier, congrats on a spectacular find.
