Well I'm not sleeping tonight. Dug a dream coin for us here on the west coast. Cant get much older than this one on our side. Rang up a bit choppy between a dime and a quarter on my equinox 800. Down between 6 to 8". Cleaned it for about 3 hours and I think I'll stop here. The crust on this reminded me of that crusty white stuff aluminum gets but much harder. Thanks for looking 20190727_192034.webp20190727_192054.webpPSX_20190728_010802.webp

I say Banner thats amazing I would think something that old would have dissinagrated. My town was founded in 1826 The first coin dropped probobly till the 1860s and was immediatley picked up and a pop top left in its place lol I like to see when someone like you finds a coin like this and really appreciates the find. Great job ride that higfh you deserve it...keep rippin my friend Tommy

it CAN happen....congratulations!

I found a Spanish spill a 1807 1/2 real and a 1789 1 reale and seeing that 17 was breathtaking.

I’ve very happy for you Nick.
Thank you Truth, that would be out of this world to dig a Spanish spill, now I want to see them! Did u post it? Can I see pics or a link if you get a chance?

If you found that in California, then that's an amazingly historic find Nick! :notworthy:
Looks like you've done a great job in restoring it so far.

Dave
Thank you! It was found in California and not on a desert trail in so cal, in the SF bay area.

Haha thanks brother! I was so shocked when I saw that face on the coin, then to see the 17...
You never know what you will find, that's an old town you are in, there's potential! I just got lucky, thanks for banner!

Thank you, yes I guess anything can be found, just have to keep that coil swinging right?!

Hope you're able to get it cleaned up safely Nick... just remember, once it's 'restored' you can never un-restore it.

I'm going to be in San Francisco on holiday in August for 10 days, I hope to see a lot of your state while I'm there.
We've got tickets for Alcatraz, my daughter and I are going to a Giants vs A's game.
I'm also renting a car for a few days and head to Bodega Beach and to Santa Cruz. My daughter wants to go to the carnival at the Beach Boardwalk.

Can you recommend anything historic that I should make it a point of seeing while we're there?

Thanks,
Dave

Sent you a PM but the Winchester Mystery house in San Jose is great. Really good tour with lots of history.20190730_071341.webp

Nice! Try using aluminum foil on the coin to get that crust off. Put the sheet of foil over both sides of the coin and use index finger and thumb to clean.

Yeah I say banner as well west cost Spanish silver isn’t very common!!

Congrats on a great bucket lister. Those are hard to come by in the Wild West :occasion14:

Right on buddy.....that's truly a great find for the west coast !! Congrats !!

Thanks, I have never heard of that one. I have heard of baking soda water and sitting on foil to remove tarnish. I think I'm stopping where it is though

Thank you, and you can say that again!
