1796 Carolus IIII (one REALE) & a couple Nice early US buttons

These finds are from the last two days, each day a different site.. Most of the stuff didn't clean up real well ::) so I left a lot of it out of the after cleaning pics... the copper in the dirty pic with the reale was TOAST :laughing7: a Matron head that was the only thing I could tell.. also not pictured, 2 three-ringers, a few early tombac buttons, 3 one-piece eagle A buttons, and an early rosette.. This is spanish silver #16 for the year :headbang:

Here's a group shot of the dirty finds

As always Jeff, I love seeing what you find! :notworthy:
I am very interested in the lead seal . . . excuse my ignorance,
but can you tell me what these were used for? :help:
How old do you think this is? :icon_scratch:

:hello:
Hey brother,
I just got back in myself.
Those are some awesome digs.

Re: 1796 Carolus IIII (one REALE) & a couple Nice early US buttons

KILLER stuff! I LOVE those early US's! Spanish silver is always good--and a milled coin is probably old hat to you boys at this point, but thats a great keeper too.

I didn't even see this post earlier, and thought that Josh was the only one that posted.

Bravo to the Dynamic Duo for eking out another Superior hunt.

Cheers,

Buck

Thank you Antiquarian :icon_thumleft: I believe this seal to be from the civil war given where it was found.. (1860's) I think it was used to seal a burlap sack of snap peas to feed the soldiers :dontknow:

Thank you BB :icon_thumleft: Josh and I are always thrilled to have any coin, button, or relic found at our military sites, including this worn reale :D :laughing7:

Re: 1796 Carolus IIII (one REALE) & a couple Nice early US buttons

Everytime I read your post I kick myself for not hunting while I was stationed there. I knew there was tons of history but at the time I was chasing girls instead of silver.. :icon_pale:

Thanks for your response Jeff. I've seen these seals appear here from time to time, I just never knew what they were for exactly. :icon_thumright:

I don't blame you, if I wasn't with someone, I'd be doing the same :laughing9:

no problem, again I'm not exactly sure. thats a guess and there are several different types of seals.. someone like Iron Patch would know much more about them
