1796 Liberty Cap surface find....

Well, the description says it all. I found this at a cellar hole edge after clearing a $h!t ton of brambles. The coin looked like it was a loss, but reluctantly I decided to give it a zap, something I rarely do. The results were spectacular.

Your electrolysis results are shocking! Pun intended. I can't believe how much detail you got off that coin it looks so good in comparison to how you found it. I am often at loss as to the best way to deal with a corroded copper as I am still new to finding them and cleaning. Can you talk a little on what made you think this coin would stand up to it and can you detail the process of electrolysis and cleaning every 5 minutes a little more. I am really impressed with your results here! What kinds of coins did you practice on and can you describe that process a bit? Thanks for any feedback!

Not quite sure. I’m not an electrolysis frequent but I zapped it for around 50 minutes @ 12v and 2amps. Checked it and cleaned ever 4-5 minutes during.

Do you use A/c or D/C for this electrolysis? Do you add any minerals or salts to the water to increase the conductivity?

Well let me put it this way. I zap coins as a last ditch effort. I’ve found around and about 300 large copper coins. I’ve only zapped 8-10. Lol. I practiced on destroyed wheats and IHc’s until I got it right. Good luck and thanks for looking
